I've read all the manga but never watched it. I started watching it with my girlfriend who knows nothing of one piece. It's pretty great. I just got to the Arlong arc. The scene with sanji and the cooks was really well done. It got me right in the feels

The only time there's actually been a full 7 since Crocodile was arrested has been right after the time skip. His spot wasn't filled until Blackbeard joined, but that was around the same time Jinbei quit out of protest. They lost Moriah and Blackbeard right after, putting at 4. At some point during the time skip they restaffed with Law, Buggy, and the unknown 7th, but then Law did his thing to take out Doflamingo, so now they're back down to 5.

Sogeking's not a member of the Straw Hat Pirates, so there's no reason for Bart to frame and put up Sogeking's bounty poster on the Going Luffy Senpai.

Yeah I see people getting mixed up on this a lot, thinking that The Marines are the whole government.

World Government is the government, Marines are the marines and for all we know the entire military force, Cipher Pol is basically the CIA. Three distinct but related groups.

Maybe someone brought it up, but is it possible that Shiki is the 7th shichibukai? There's a person with his hair grouped with the shichibukai, and he's supposed to be an old timer based on him having a connection with Zephyr, right? And isn't it about time Oda brought him into the story proper?

This is kind of pedantic but Blackbeard got his title around the time the Strawhats attacked Enies Lobby. So there was a full lineup from the start of the story up until Crocodile got beaten, then from when Blackbeard joined until Jinbe and Blackbeard rebelled during Marineford, and then from whenever Law and the mystery guy joined during the timeskip until Dressrosa.

We'll probably never know, but I wonder who left behind the hole in the group that the government wanted Ace to fill at one point, and which one of the warlords was the one who took their place. I imagine the warlords are normally very stable, with people leaving rarely and being immediately replaced, and that the tumultuous state they've been in over the course of the story is only recent.

Don't bet on it

Shiki is a movie exclusive villain that had a throwaway line in one panel outside of chapter 0 to help promote the 10 (?) year anniversary film. He had his time in the sun, got chumped at the end, he's out of the picture for good.

I think One Piece might have the best currency in manga. Though I guess it depends on what the currency in Dorohedoro looks like...

It's funny but one of my favorite parts of the series might actually be the reader question corner, Oda's just such a funny dude and I like whenever he gets caught in a slipup/mistake by a reader and just bullshits an explanation on the fly

Yeah but Lucchi was already there in disguise before Luffy started laying the beatdown on Doffy and the gang. Given how Aikanu was spitting hot fire over the new admiral apologizing to the country, it's hard for me to buy that Aikanu would let that slide, even with Lucchi/Aikanu's practice of 'Dark Justice'. There's definitely more to the story here, I figure it's got something to do with the Elder Stars or whatever they're called forcing their hand despite his objections.

On another story beat! Doffy's wrapped up in chains, pegged to the floor monitored by that 'give-no-fucks' lady marine and he's still delivering those trademark warped philosophical speeches? Stay golden flamingo, never change that spirit :allears:

I agree with you after reading this - I find it really hard to believe that Rob Lucci, a villain who was defeated in a completely fair 1v1 slugfest by the protagonist which almost killed both of them, could come back as a villain. In shonen that guy is like 90% gonna switch sides, he cannot come back until he finds a new dream after being defeated in that way. He's gonna be representing like the moral justice faction in the WG or something I bet. IMO Oda is beginning to foreshadow a rogue Marine faction in general and this fits.

Also, unlike most One Piece villains, there's decent odds on him being dead. He got kicked through a floating continent into the ocean, switching off his Devil Fruit powers, and when the Marines thought they'd spotted him and moved in for a capture, it turned out that it was just the Straw Hats using his flag as a parachute.

I also want to see Commander in Chief Kong fight somebody. I would be very pleased to see a mythical "Monkey King"/"Sun Wukong" zoan out of him, as his name suggests. Almost certainly won't happen, but it'd be awesome if it did.

I think they made a big deal out of the movie being canon and is the only one that could be. Having Shiki come back would be great. The fact that Morgan and CP9 are also coming back is amazing, this is such a good chapter.

Am I the only one who didn't like Strong World? Shiki just standing there and letting Luffy hit him with the Thor Axe attack was dumb, Luffy even using an attack like that proves decisively that Oda doesn't understand the difference between conductors and insulators, Nami gets kidnapped again, Shiki's henchmen don't really do anything, most of the Straw Hats don't really do anything either, Zoro's injuries from Thriller Bark are ignored, and the sort-of canon status sets a precedent for the even worse Z.

I don't think there's ever been an official statement about it being canon. I guess people just kind of assume it since it was written by Oda and can theoretically "fit" into the regular story.

Also I think people are jumping the gun a little on Morgan but hopefully we'll get a clear answer on that in the next couple of weeks.

People are whiny basic bitches, there's plenty of great bits post timeskip. Especially if you are just reading it through all at once, rather than week by week.

F. Lobot

The events of Strong World and Film Z aren't canon, but their backstories are. The mystery 7th Warlord really did beat up a former Admiral named Zephyr. Shiki's probably still hanging out in East Blue waiting on his 20 year plan (though it's been 22 years so maybe the plan failed).

Shiki being the 7th Warlord is possible, it would give Chapter 0/the shoutout in Impel Down a reason to exist, and it would be a cute little nod to the movies. However the Warlord would have to stay a minor character because I doubt Oda wants to reuse the same villian for a major story arc.

I don't if he had every detail planned out from chapter 1, but I think since he had Sanji's face obscured with two sets of wanted posters he had to have had some purpose. Would be FAR from the first time Oda had something planned really far back:

"[Boa Hancock's] very first published appearance was actually shown on the cover of a 1999 Weekly Shonen Jump. "

If I wanted to take the time I could find like 10 examples of this.
