I don't have service on my 6s. My 5s still works fine, although I have it in airplane mode now. I logged into AT&T and it prompted me to activate the new phone, but no luck. Never had to wait before, is this a new thing?

Also, Touch ID being superfast means that Apple Pay is much more usable.

Ugh, had to force close my background apps/pages on my 6 to get two (rather large) Safari tabs to stop refreshing when switching between them. Wasn't planning to upgrade until the 7 comes out, or next year at the soonest, but the inferiority complex has already begun festering... Dunno if a visual hardware refresh is in the cards for the 7; I've grown quite fond of the aesthetic of the 6/6S. Apple has gotten it's fair share of flak for this design, so who knows. Personally, I could do without the camera bump, but I've seen much worse. enojy fucked around with this message at 08:38 on Sep 26, 2015 |

Personally, the camera bump doesn't bother me at all - I have an apple leather case that keeps it from resting on the lens. What does still bother me is placing the on/off button opposite the volume/shutter. I still end up turning the screen off by mistake even after a year.

Etrips posted:What really? This has been driving absolutely insane and thought it was because of my dumb car's system that was doing it. It's a combination of factors. First your car stereo may have a setting to disable autoplay on connect. One of my cars has "my Ford touch" (which is a lovely system) and what it does is autoplays whatever is queued up in the phones "now playing" be it a podcast or song. Usually that's the last thing you listened to, but if your phone had to quit the app that was last being used to play music to allocate its RAM to another app (the only time this happens to audio apps is when the audio is paused or stopped for a while and the app is in the background) then it doesn't know what to play, so it just grabs the first song in the music library and starts to play it. In my music library my first song is "A Bitch I Knew" by Snoop Dogg, which can be a bit embarrassing when I have other people riding in the car with me. My other car has CarPlay and it doesn't autoplay (at least mine doesn't) but it does forget what I was last listening to because of the RAM reallocation thing. One thing that iOS 9 did was fix the podcasts app in CarPlay so it remembers which one I was listening to and adds a resume button front and center in the CarPlay podcasts app. I haven't had a chance to drive with the 6S yet but hopefully the extra RAM helps prevent that.

I just wonder how big of an impact it is. When you turn it on, it asks you to teach it your voice. This means it isn't listening and interpreting every word, but simply passively matching a waveform and using it as a trigger. Integrated chip-on-chip stuff is usually really power efficient, so I imagine it's hilariously negligible on the new design. I enabled permanent Hey Siri on my 6 by simply using a battery case when I was around the house / car. Even here it doesn't ever seem like a significant drain, I'd probably have to do a 100-sample test to notice it in figures.

Is the AT&T model of the 6s (with band 30) sold unlocked if you pay it in full? I'm noticing now that you can pay full price on the AT&T phone on Apple's site when you weren't able to do so previously. I want to just keep using Cricket without having to go through any AT&T unlocking crap.

I just got back from the apple shop, checking out how well 3D touch works on the new phones. Not a fan - the multitasking shortcut is too hard to trigger reliably and I can see how it'd be even less slick with a case on. I turned the sensitivity down to 'light' and it improved things slightly, but still not great. It was good for the right-click type options on dock icons (Safari & mail), but doesn't solve my biggest annoyance with the iPhone: double-pressing a physical home button thousands of times a day. Might play with assistive touch for a bit as an alternative.

As recommended by this thread, I walked into an Apple store (on the day the 6S went on sale, no less) to ask for a replacement for my charger cable broken at the phone-facing connector. The chief clerk gave me a little speech about how since the damage was superficial, it doesn't in principle fall under warranty. I got the cable, so I'm happy, but the story made no sense to me. Is there any basis to what he said? It wasn't that the damage was cosmetic - the cable's plastic covering was peeling off - I think he just wanted to give me a story about how it's my fault for handling it too rough. But what he instead said, verbatim, was that the damage is obvious and therefore not in principle covered by warranty.

Yesterday I moved my SIM from my 5S to my 6S and everything was working perfectly. I got an email this morning saying I needed to activate my new device and it would only allow me to activate the correct SIM and IMEI number combination. Now both of my phones say "No Service". Anything to do but wait?

I'm using the Ookla speedtest app on the phone and speedtest.net on the laptop (same thing). I wonder why download over ac is so slow on my phone. I speedtested over 50mbit down over LTE on my iPhone 5... No reason my connection should be so slow on WiFi. Oh well, hopefully it's not a defect. I do find it strange that even though I'm in a 2br condo with paper thin walls, I get only 2 'bars' of WiFi in my bedroom, whereas every other device I have sees extremely strong signal. Gosh I really hope this thing isn't defective. A manufacturing error with the antenna could cause this, I suppose. :/ Pivo fucked around with this message at 14:57 on Sep 26, 2015 |

So I realized that the 6s is reporting a 4G signal in my apartment, which is odd because all the other phones I've had there reported LTE. The speed itself isn't different (~5.35Mbps), is it possible that Apple made changes to the 6s to make T-Mobile's signal report more accurately (only showing LTE when it's actually LTE and not HSDPA)? I was initially thinking that it was because I kept my old sim and that there maybe was an issue with Band 12 support, but my 5s reported LTE.

No big deal for now, I guess.

Every time I've ever been into an apple store they have an insane staff to customer ratio -even staff per square meter. They usually have like 20 staff.
