Best you can do in an art class is lay out the assignment, show the students good techniques to go about it, and then just stand back and let them do their thing. If they choose to then draw that sort of weirdly static pseudo-anime style where they know all the elements of what their favorite anime looks like but it comes out all disjointed whenever they just slam the elements together, so be it, roll with it, and try to just gently introduce them to Loomis with dynamically-posing Gokus or something.
