Thanks for the info, guys. I dunno, I'm either having bad luck, or maybe I got a "bad" watch. Unpairing / repairing didn't seem to change anything. The watch has, and still does, average about 5% battery use per hour. Obviously the time spent recording workouts uses more battery, but over a > 4 hour cycle, 5% per hour seems pretty consistent. At this point, I think most of the New Gadget Syndrome is gone so i don't think I'm messing with it significantly more than usual. And ive gone through all the settings and pared things down a bit, and am using the Utility watch face at minimum brightness, etc. Obviously it still meets Apples advertised battery life, and frankly if I turned off all the battery level glances and complications I'd probably never notice any problem, but I'm geekin' out over it while I'm still in the return period.

As in, you’re not using the Workout app when you’re just doing regular stuff are you?

Nope. I've recorded exactly one workout per day, Other, Open Goal, of 10 to 20 minute duration.

Do I have to uninstall and resync as a new watch?

Has anyone found any decent screen protection yet? I had a armorsuit screen protector on my 42mm since launch and it did ok but the edges pealed completely up. Since then, I've tried 3 other screen protectors that all haven't lasted more than a day or two because of peeling.

Apple watch feels like the most needless piece of tech in the world, though probably all smart watches are that. Bought and returned same day, gently caress apple.

For those on the fence. I LOVE my Apple Watch. I primarily use it for the amazing notification system, but it is really really awesome to see directions on my watch as I'm driving, or weather at a quick glance. Or to help me track my calories or heart rate. Anyway - there are people out there that love the apple watch. Interestingly though, not everybody notices me wearing my apple watch. Which is nice. But, I don't have people come up to me constantly, because they think it looks normal. When the iPhone came out it was an instant draw because people knew about it and wanted to talk to you about it, boosting popularity even more. All I'm saying is - I love the watch and I don't think I'm an outlier. It just works and it's great for what it's designed for.

Homeboy's reasoning was that it felt like the most needless tech "in the world" yet he still went out and bought one anyway. I'm not sure if it would be more or less surprising if he had watch a single keynote about it. He then goes on to say that probably all wearables fall under this needless category, but then decides to say "gently caress Apple" like they did the world a great disservice, even though smartwatches and fitness bracelets have been around for a long time.

Also, first new product category of the post-Jobs Apple.

Agronox posted:It's really one of their weirdest products--I really like the watch, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to everyone, and I can't articulate why. I can. Because without using it, it's sounds dumb. You can't describe it to someone really, and without a 'demo' mode you can't show them. If you could temporarily pair it in 'guest mode' or something, it would be so easy to show it off. But describing it is Ike describing a painting or a sunset or Kate Uptons boobs.

Yeah the best I've been able to explain is that you have to live with it for a bit. Most tangible thing I've come up with more recently is just rarely missing calls/messages/etc now while keeping everything silent, and even that doesn't sound like a big deal without experiencing it. I didn't appreciate it as much until I had to charge my watch and go by sounds for a bit when I happened to get a bunch of messages (...and I think they were mostly unimportant ones which didn't require a reply, another thing the watch is nice for).

This is sad but true It is tremendously useful for non time-viewing tasks: controlling itunes, seeing texts and emails, hanging up on unknown callers, serving as a kitchen timer, using Apple Pay, using the activity app, etc. But I don't like the aesthetics, and it's a terrible time-telling device. Nonetheless, if I leave home without it, I definitely notice and miss all those little things. Perhaps Watch II and WatchOS 3 will improve things.

And looks like a piece of poo poo. I realize this comes of superficial, but watches are, ultimately, accessories/jewelry, so looking attractive is actually important.

Endless Mike posted:Many also have timers on them or other useful functions. And will never be obsolete. And look much nicer. And will retain their value far better. Apple Watch beats any traditional watch on features hands down. Traditional watches have been obsolete since people started carrying around phones that had clocks in them. Looking nicer is completely subjective. If you buy a traditional watch as an investment then you're an idiot and should probably go talk to a financial advisor. In summary, you're really dumb.

Why the gently caress does watchOS still not have a usable version of Reminders built-in? You can add them through Siri and mark them complete when they come due or whatever, but why in the motherfuck can you not just look through your list?

If you want to claim traditional watches are obsolete due to phones, smart watches were obsolete before they were ever invented...because of smart phones.
