The latest release of OpenRA (open-source engine modernisation of the original Red Alert, Command and Conquer and Dune 2000 games) has added a bunch of action and idle animations to a variety of units. Destroyed tank husks now explode into nothingness instead of silently disappearing when they can no longer be hijacked, and idle troops now perform different animations like shadow boxing in between their regular rifle checks. Every release they improve the engine and add a bunch of graphical or performance tweaks but just seeing that during the menu screen was neat as all hell. Not only that but the entire game is a labour of love by unpaid devs working for nothing but bug bounties and the appreciation of a community based around a 20+ year old genre defining classic. If RA, C&C or Dune 2000 were ever a significant part of your life you should check them out. http://www.openra.net/

I like all the character voices in Not a Hero, but especially Mike's. He's an alcoholic from St Helens and reminds me of a 90s style nutter from a pub. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXF5KWAnetE

MGSV's Reflex mode can lead to some pretty fun shenanigans too. I was infiltrating a base, and one of those big delivery trucks was driving by. At the same time, a two-person patrol was approaching from the other side of the truck. The truck stops and the driver/passenger get out, so I sneak up and try to Fulton out the truck. This makes me visible to the driver and passenger of the truck as well as the approaching patrol (which is now right up against the truck), triggering Reflex mode. I tranq all four soldiers, they fall under the truck, and then a fifth solder I hadn't seen shoots the balloon off the truck, crushing the four people I just tranqed. Switching (metal) gears, the most recent episode of Tales from the Borderlands has an amazing sequence: To set it up, as you infiltrate various parts of the Hyperion base and talk to people/overhear conversations, there's a recurring motif of people doing the finger-gun/"Gotcha!"/act-like-you're-shot routine (you know, as corporate drones do). This culminates in the 'boss battle' of the episode: Rhys (one of the main characters, temporarily disguised as a particularly obnoxious executive voiced by Patrick Warburton) versus a group of accountants. The whole battle takes place with finger pistols, finger machine guns, and invisible grenades/throwing knives, complete with the corresponding mouth noises ("Pow pow!", "eh-eh-eh-eh-eh","Pfffffffffff", and "shink!"), with accountants dropping left and right as they get fake shot/blown up/impaled in the face. After Rhys wins and makes his escape, all of the accountants slowly get up and head back to their offices. Really, Tales from the Borderlands has a ton of great little things, and it's paced way better than the 'normal' Borderlands games.

The posters and advertisements get a cool new feature in Arkham Knight once you pass a certain point in the story. As an example, if you look at a poster it might have an advertisement featuring a man putting a necklace on a woman. Look again and it's Bruce Wayne/Batman choking a lady dressed as Joker from behind with a wire. Spoilered for people that haven't played the game, because it's not hard to figure out that plot twist.

The second you look away they change back to normal so it's difficult to tell if you actually saw anything. On top of that a lot of statues will change during flashes of lightning which is, what, half a second? It's brilliantly done.

I especially love how as you go further in the game it happens more and more often and the effects last longer and longer to signify Batman's increasing craziness. Someone also mentioned that the Joker starts out looking diseased like he did in Arkham City, and as the game goes on he looks healthier to signify his increasing control over Batman.

After it was mentioned in the other thread, I looked through my Steam library for fun 'stupid poo poo' achievements. And I've found out that Cities Skylines has achievements for being a lovely mayor. There's an achievement for tanking your city's happiness rating, and one for having an absurdly high crime rate. You could also arguably include the one to fill five landfills, but I could see a good city reaching that one. EDIT: Also one for taxing your residents way higher than you're taxing your businesses. Probably mentioned but I just noticed that D-Dog whines sadly if you kill a dude but barks (or something can't remember right now) positively if you choke the dude. I also now have one FEMALE on my staff that's not Quiet. As a FEMALE I am pleased at this.

The problem with playing as a woman in MGS5 is they sound like they're legit dying every time they pant after sprinting.

I love how the AI has a desire to not die. For example: truck with 2 dudes pull up to an outpost. If they see one knocked out guy they leave the truck to check it out, BUT if then I kill one of the truck dudes the other is like "gently caress that," gets back in the truck and drives away. I'm currently massacring a huge area and the regular supply truck came up. They saw there were no people to greet them so they got out to see what was going on, the warning music came on, the truck guys walked away from the truck and saw the dozens of dead bodies......... and got back in the truck and bye

The music in Arkham Knight adapts as you stealth around Cobra tanks, based on proximity to and your line of sight to the tanks. The music gets noticeably more intense, with heavier beats the closer you are. It really makes up for the awkwardness of the radar, and makes it way easier to judge your proximity to a tank while simultaneously making you more anxious as you stalk it.

So I learned a neat little trick that I like a lot for an annoying mission, thanks to a bug in MGSV. So at one point there's a mission where you have to escort some child soldiers out of a battle field, it's a pain in the rear end because if they die you get a game over and you have to carry one. Right at the end the AI messed up and they stopped moving so I tried to see what would happen if I shot them all with tranqs and carried them to the chopper. It was fine. There's also a base right next to where you find them, with a landing point. You could cut the mission time for this in half just by clearing that base and calling in the helicopter and shoving all those little soldiers on in like ten seconds and getting the hell out of there. Spectacular.

The music across the entire franchise does this for any stealth encounter, I think. As you start taking out more and more goons, extra instruments and lines of music will begin to swell to a peak. It's a neat way of getting the player excited in sections that can look fairly sedate next to combat areas.
