Sorry it's not *new* new but is AI still in love with Focus STs? Dads getting a new off the lot 2015 ST1 tomorrow and I wanted to see if I steered him correctly. It was basically spending the last year repeatedly telling him almost every couple days the reasons why he didn't want to go with a GTI and it was the latest VW boondoggle that finally tipped him away.

I'd rather drive a GTI even though it's slower, doesn't handle as well, and won't be as reliable. It's just a lot nicer inside and it's a sporty street car, not a track car.

But good on him for picking the quantitatively superior car and having the good taste to get it in the most obnoxiously bright colour, as he should. If he's into modding cars at all, you can get a real Quaife helical LSD for the ST which, with a tune, will have the car probably eating Golf Rs if he cares about that.

As for the 4C, whoever said their packaging and pricing models are a problem was right. At $60k (Not 'Murican) the 4C looks like a more entertaining and interesting option than a $60k Cayman, but at $75k suddenly the Cayman S looks pretty good. Fiat should have brought two models with no packages and just a handful of individual options, and priced the spider more closely to the coupe.

Really? I didn't think the GTI interior was hot poo poo when I test drove it, whereas the Recaros in the FoST gave me a semi when I sat in them, and the rest of it was at least not bad enough to take notice of.

The current Focus interior is actually pretty good, feels solid, and the Recaros are very nice but didn't feel like they'd be comfortable for longer drives. I think the GTI, and Golf in general, gets overrated by magazine reviewers partly because they're idiots, but also because it really is a lot nicer than most of the segment, and still a bit nicer than the Focus/Mazda3 in terms of design and feel.

Honestly if I were shopping in that segment I'd just get a previous-gen Mazda3 hatch or something for cheap, but looking at $30k+ fast hatchbacks the Golf really does a better impression of a $30k+ car than the Focus does.

Edit: Hadn't played with their websites in a long time, holy poo poo lol $38k CAD for a GTI with the Performance Pack and no leather. That'll get you a Focus ST with the 401A package, a proper helical LSD, and your choice between a shitload of power mods or a hatch full of liquor with a high-class escort in every seat.

Yea nevermind, gently caress VW.

I love that colour and bright colours on cars. It makes me sad when shopping a brand that only has drab boring colours (cough, toyota, honda) in their regular lineup but I understand not everyone wants to drive a pimp rear end clown car like I do.

Funny enough I would have never had bought a red car before getting my current ride (it was a great deal) and now all I want is a red or some other bright colour car.

Hmm, I'm not sure how this is possible or if the site I had is just lying but apparently the 4C, despite having 223hp less, has the same 4.2 second 0-60 time as a base manual Corvette? I dunno, another site says the auto Corvette is 3.8 so it's in that range. Haven't seen any official nurburgring times for a base Corvette but the 4C did 8:04, which is apparently the fastest of any sub-250hp car. I assume the base Corvette with Z51 package is somewhere in the 7:30 range?

0-60 doesn't mean jack loving poo poo to anyone but drag racers and spec sheet racers; downshift and hammer the throttle down an on-ramp and that'll show you the difference between a Corvette and any lesser powered sports car in the sort of driving people actually do. Same goes for lap times around race tracks, cars like the 4C can turn respectable lap times for their power output due to their ability to hold speed through corners, something virtually nobody will be able to tell the difference of between two cars on a test drive.

Acceleration from a rolling start is what matters to people and no trick launch mode DSG or AWD bullshit is going to make up for raw power there.

Not just that, but accurate handling means nothing at all for the vast majority of American drivers. For one thing, our roads are generally too straight for it to matter, so even those that do want to have a car that's fun on a curvy road can't justify a car that's meant for something that doesn't exist where they live. For another, cheap gas means we can slap a V8 in pretty much whatever we want, so our carmakers can cater to that demand without worrying about gas prices or high taxes on big engines, with the subsequent effect that Americans expect more power for the money in general.

And therefore, we see the sales of the Alfa 4C.

luv 2 get custom titles from a forum that goes into revolt when its told to stop using a bad word.

In fact, that 14000 includes the 2015 and 2016 A3 2L TDI which has urea injection and doesn't break the EPA rules, although the EPA has stopped them selling any more until this is resolved. According to my contact at Audi the total number of affected vehicles in the US is: 11,600.

The 3L V6 TDI engine also uses urea injection so shouldn't be affected either.
