Is this an artistic choice or a folktale creature? Also his foot is right by the springy door jam, so now I'm picturing a mischievous spirit that likes to spring the door jam when no-one's looking then runs and hides.

I got curious and did a little research: This is Macchine anatomiche: one of two anatomical models located in the Capella Sansevero chapel in Naples, Italy. The models are of a grown man and a pregnant woman, and show all the blood vessels in the human body on top of the skeleton. Historians assumed that the blood vessels had been made by injecting hardening substances into real tissue, but it has recently been found that they're made from silk and bees wax. The skeletons are the real McCoy though.

That's creepy but also really cool. Someone dissolved everything but the circulatory system of a corpse. One of those anatomy illustrations IRL. I have no idea if it's truth or creepypasta urban legend, but I remember reading that nobody knows how it was made. If the creator made notes, they're lost to time.
