All these stories about people's experiences in CoC reminds me of when SoC was first released and every discussion of Stalker was not about the plot, but was an excited babble of people telling each other about their adventures. That's a really nostalgic moment for me. SoC seemed to capture people's enthusiasm and I saw not only a lack of cynicism but actual child like excitement about a game. That's games at their best imo

COC definitely does that. I'd almost forgotten how creepy some of the levels can be. Going through the Wild Territory at night and suddenly being under attack from a band of mercenaries nearly made me close the game down and take a breather.

I'm playing the DMX 1.3.2/DKZ02 version of the PeopleSoup mod, and I've started running into this error when walking near the bandit base at the Dark Valley: Expression : vertex || show_restrictions(m_object) Function : CPatrolPathManager::select_point File : E:\stalker\sources\trunk\xr_3da\xrGame\patrol_path_manager.cpp Line : 155 Description : any vertex in patrol path [val_sniper3_walk] in inaccessible for object [val_sniper3] I read that one solution was to wait out an emission in a neighboring map and then re-enter but this hasn't worked, so I've tried to implement the solution in this thread (2nd to last post) http://www.gsc-game.com/index.php?t=community&s=forums&s_game_type=xr&thm_page=1&thm_id=18594&page=310&sort=ASC&sec_id=16 and have also found some stuff here, but it's all in Russian: http://bar-reaktor.ru/forum/173-2307-1 So far it hasn't worked, I seem to be getting the same error, but the first link mentions repeating the same line which I've not had the opportunity to do yet - but I'm not sure if the solution is working in the first place since I'm not sure if I put the commands in the right place in the file mentioned. Anybody able to shed some light on this?

Just had my first go at CoC and the old stock damage models are killing me. I basically played O.L. for years in SoC and then Misery in CoP straight after that and my entire play style is based around getting that first shot kill in. Now I'm getting murdered by lone Duty guys after plinking an entire mag from the starting pistol into their faces. Need a damage mod!

Just getting back into these games. Played CoP before but never completed it to its full, now I'm torn between playing SHoC or just waiting until I can download CoC so the areas are all new to me. Loaded it up once though and looked at least at the large overview map on the PDA. Is it just me, or does it seem like all the areas are smaller than CoP? Maybe it's just because they all are disconnected from one another, I dunno.

A few years ago I saw a trailer for a winter mod for SoC - had the zone all covered in snow, bare trees and bushes, etc. It was really austere and pretty but I don't think it ever got translated out of Russian (I never found it anyway). Hopefully somebody is beavering away at something like it because it was really beautiful. e: looks like a couple of them have popped up since then.

Looks like I'm gonna have to install this mod and check it out. I think my desire for some kind of plot or goal should be reasonably satisfied by getting to the Wish Granter. Simple roleplay of being a stalker, seeking to find the ultimate prize! (Already been mentioned that there is an objective to deactivate the Brain Scorcher... I assume you need to do that first to open up Pripyat and the power station parts of the game? Or does the brain scorcher now only affect the one level that it is in.) Personally I'd love it if some version of the Strelock main quest from SoC was in there. So while you'd have freedom to roam the zone and do whatever, if you got the special unlocking device you'd be able to open that locked door in the power plant and do the "true ending". Of course that doesn't really fit with the idea that you can play as Military or Monolith or whatever. I'm guessing I'll have to wait for english translation of latest OGSE to scratch my itch of "SoC - super awesome edition." Alternatively, a mod that used the CoP storyline, but where the 5 helicopter crashes were scattered across the entire Zone.

In COC there's an actual physical level where you can find the C-Consciousness pods. Unfortunately it doesn't do anything when you get there, but you can get there. Maybe go looking for those? e: And the Brain Scorcher does affect a lot of levels until you switch it off. I believe someone mentioned on the moddb page that they managed to bypass the scorcher and get to Pripyat by going through the Jupiter Underground. I'm not sure if that's intended, but I believe that's the official explanation for how Strelok first got past it, so that's a happy accident if so. My game started out pretty slow in CoC and suddenly I got way too much going on and I'm just at Bar. Overloaded with guns and I can't go five feet without being shot at by a chopper or bandits or being swiped at by a monster. It still doesn't feel like life though, or atmosphere or a proper sense of clawing a slow painful progression through the Zone like I found in Misery, and frankly I think it's stupid little poo poo like finding porno mags in some guy's stash that helps. It just feels like the most natural thing to find a Ukrainian girly mag floating around the Zone like some dogeared, crusty-paged treasure. And has anyone else noticed the sound being a bit off? I feel like the left and right channels are reversed for things like gunfire and footsteps, makes it impossible to pinpoint them. Distant gunshots would make sense with like echoes but if I have even a guy walking directly behind me his steps don't sound right. Fun Stalker story: I hired a guy to hang out with me and we took out the big bandit camp in Garbage. I took a nap on a nearby couch afterward and woke up the next morning to find my buddy dead not 10 feet away with some monster lying dead next to him, and three new bandits had spawned inside the place and a ton of monsters outside. I got too overloaded looting the new guys to escape and got chewed up by mice, thinking surely they couldn't climb stairs.

Wow, after playing about 20 minutes, this mod is fantastic. This may be the end of COP mods, at this point people might as well start making mods for COC itself instead. One slight criticism, the vendors have that pickiness about the weapon quality. M4A1 with 2 bars missing off of its durability (still light green) and the vendor still won't buy it.
