Because of her job my girlfriend has to try and find the positives of TPP, or at least the reasons to sign it, and this is the argument it comes down to a lot. Its not untrue either, if TPP gets signed without NZ then we will feel the impact - things like our kiwifruit export industry would dry up overnight.

So who elses facebook has a bunch of people posting a video of a supposed takeover of an office by a maori king land claimant who has hired "UN Contractors"?

Okay well me being wrong in some limited situations doesn't change my overall point.
I was surprised and impressed at the snippets of John keys speech i heard at the UN, and that annoyed me. But credit where credits due.

But then I realised two things - I am giving him credit for being a normal human being with empathy, and I suspect the solutions he would prefer would be abhorrent to me.

Is it still okay to hate the keyster?

Remember when he played off sexually harassing a waitress multiple times as "horsing around" and tried to have his cronies run a smear campaign against her?

Good point, and its not like he can enforce his position militarily - we are a paper tiger. It's a licence to say whatever!

A paper tiger is something that looks scary but isn't actually and Key trying to sound foreign policyish is embarrassing. "It's time to stop talking and start acting The UN" he slurred naively.

There's a lot of cynical bs in these opinions^

NZ has played a significant role in shaping UN policy before, like the work we did on the cluster munitions agreement, or being the first country to call the racial violence in Rwanda a genocide. Not that JK was involved but you get the point

He is really, really late to the Syrian party. Even Merkel broke on the refugee issue well before we even thought about pussyfooting our half rear end response. The EU who are the ones dealing with this have been doing a lot outside of the UN. Not like he is actually calling for a UN police action, its all talk on stuff people are already doing. The one thing everybody is avoiding is escalation to having people on the ground fighting, hence all the air-strikes.

A lot of people in the know think something will be agreed on in Atlanta over TPP. NZ might get favourable access to dairy in the US and Canada but not Japan.

Much like his father, he is a vapid, rancid human being leeching off others to further his own career while having no actual talent!

Yeah Max Key hasn't really done anything other than have a bad prime minister for a father, so you shouldn't really hold any more disdain for him than you would for any other King's College alumnus. So a pretty high level is still fine.

Rip it Up Publisher's Response to Dope Review

04 October 2015 | 2pm | Grant Hislop

A review of the film Dope published on our website on the 28th of September has caused controversy and offense in some sectors.

I have reviewed the content in question and simply put, the review does not portray our intended context and I can understand how it has caused this reaction.

We have a policy of sub-editing all contributed articles to ensure they meet editorial standards, however in this instance, the review of the movie Dope was published prior to subbing and as a result appeared in its raw form missing some key references.

Ironically it was the excitement for the movie and subject matter that prompted hasty publication. The writer is not bigoted and is in fact an avid promoter of equality in all areas of our community. One only needs to read other articles we are publishing to qualify this.

Rip It Up is cultural magazine with a liberal progressive heart. We are deeply interested in NZ society and the cause of social inclusiveness. Over the last few months we have addressed a number of sticky topics including the plight of those who are born transgender, animal welfare, what it means to be New Zealander, the TPPA and more recently abuse against women, and in all our endeavours we have sought to create conversation.

The intention of the reviewer was to raise the issues that the film explores as well as exploring the taboos that surround the word “friend of the family” which is used throughout the film. We recognise that the intentions of the article have been misconstrued and taken out of context and apologise for any offense caused.
