How are you guys comparing the good interior of an old car that often doesnt stand up as much as it should to wear, to the interior of a brand new car from a historically lovely car company that hasnt been around long enough to see any sort of long term wear?

Because I was horrified to find that if you add modern BMW interiors in they slot below them both

I quite like the busy interior of the current Optima. Had one as a rental and like if much more than most everything in its segment in terms of layout and ergonomics. Materials are kind of sub-par but unless you're used to driving Mercedes and BMWs, it's not bad at all.

My 2012 Optima SX interior is way nicer than anything else I've had, but I don't buy luxury cars. For a sub-30k car I'm pretty pleased with it but I'm also a stickler about people not putting their feet and poo poo on my dashboard so maybe mine gets less wear than most? The only thing I hate about the interior is the pebbly texture on the dash because it more obviously reflects on the windshield when the sun is out as opposed to a flat texture-less dash.

I'd splurge an extra $1-2k for this, but $5k is silly.

Ive never really understood why they've never tried to sell the Corvette in the UK. I see the odd grey import now and again. There's quite a following for American cars here (there's a shop nearby that specialises in importing Mustangs) so I think it would do well here??

they do sell them, they just don't sell well, mainly because of the price. They go for Porsche Cayman GT4 money new, and an extra £10k will get you in a 911, so that's what people compare them with. And, like it or not, regardless of who beat who at the Nurburgring, and which has got the nicer interior, in the UK the kind of people who can afford to drop minimum £60k on a car want a German badge on the front, period.
Look at it like this. You spend £60k on a Corvette, only to have your mates endlessly piss-take and browbeat you about "ox cart suspension" and "does it go around corners?" and "how's your sister in bed?", instead of congratulating you on being a man of class and distinction for buying German. You can see why people choose the safe option.

The reason I've always heard is because they are too wide for the ludicrously skinny UK streets. They'll fit, but you'll have like an inch on either side. No idea if that's true or not, it's just what I heard.

One of the problems has been GM's repeated reorgs in Europe. First they were just Vauxhall/Opel, then they tried to use the Chevy brand, then that failed and they reorged again. So there's that. Then there's the fact that the US will buy all the Corvettes they can churn out of Bowling Green so there's not so much pressure to expand, I think.

I finally got a chance to drive the new GT350 (with the track package; we were promised the 350R too but that did not happen), although only very briefly (3 laps of Lime Rock then about 15 minutes on the road). Not really enough time to form an deep opinion, but I was really impressed. I prefer the C7s interior, and the driving position is a bit better. Pedals in the Corvette were easier for heel-toe, except with the rev match you don't even need to bother. Brakes on the GT350 were immense. And I think it sounds even better than the 'vette.

I never used to give a drat about Mustangs but there is something about that new 350 that I cannot get over. The latest styling tweaks took the 'stang from "nice retro homage" to "that is a dang nice looking car" and when you compound that with the monster V8 and flat crank, I become ensorcelled.

No, because he took one to France and it was Hammond and May giving him poo poo for the mileage and the amount of fuel stops he had to do. He wasn't bitching about it himself at all on that road trip.
It was only later, while living with a car that broke down a lot (and he flat out says it's the stupid alarm, not the cars fault), that everything became annoying inc mileage.
