Maybe I'm a mutant, but I really enjoyed Promised Land.

I haven't seen that many Van Sant films but I have seen Psycho '98, so I'm going to go ahead and agree with the 'inconsistent' label.

Sometimes the vendor gets the film and dailies with a giant semi-opaque "property of" burn over the picture with the name of the trailer company on it, sometimes the burn is small and in the corner, and sometimes they get all the picture clean. Regardless, there is always a high level of internal security within trailer and print marketing houses because if the film leaks from there it's game over for the company. Not only would they get sued into oblivion, no studio would ever use their services again.

And don't forget invisible watermarks. Almost all the leaks lately have come from either hacking or testing companies. Leaking a film from a trailer house is a death sentence.

Academy screeners, too. Those things get passed around like the town bike.

Some studios are doing crazy poo poo to track leaks, like timing the roof of a house in a random scene a different color for each dub.

Which makes me wonder, and I'm not saying this snarkily or anything, but do you not have an NDA on how you can talk about a film when it hasn't been released? I would think you wouldn't be able to make editorial comments on films that come through your house when they haven't been released. Legit wondering.

Day of Reckoning is a moody mystery piece until the midway point. Hardcore looks like a bunch of action scenes tenuously strung together.

I probably push the envelope. Nobody knows what company I work at and also thankfully nobody reads the SA forums. You go to a place like IMP Awards and all the comments there are from people working in the industry and will say a movie is dogshit all the time. If I leaked images or trailers I'd get busted quickly though, for sure.

IMDB Pro forums are full of people who see the films and bash it before it comes out. There are thousands of people who have seen Point Break already. Saying anonymously that you saw it and didn't like it is a lot different than leaking Star Wars rough trailer cuts.

I'm really curious how a trailer is cut actually. How much time do you have to work on a typical one? How far into the shoot do you start getting footage? What kind of guidelines are you given? About how many des a typical company work on a year? That kind of stuff.

I don't think a movie can be more Aymerican than that. I think if you filmed a movie inside the american flag it would be less american.
