You can't be racist or link porn in general channels, but you can say positive things about hitler or make mocking references to news tragedies. You can have an offensive name as long as you can come up with a plausible reason it's not bad. If you are being an rear end in a top hat to one person in particular, there are stricter and somewhat nebulous limits. You can't say anything about the weight of a certain well-known eve player. You can't do targeted suicide-ganks to a single player with the intent of driving them out of the game or making them kill themselves. You can't tell someone to kill themselves. You can't drag someone into an out-of-game TS server and verbally abuse them until they cry as the price for giving back the stuff you scammed from them. I like to put it like this: if you do something to piss off a player you're probably ok. If you do something to piss off CCP, especially vis-a-vis causing them to get negative press attention, you're history.

Also, it's utterly unpredictable. For ex: Eve has a slightly dirty reputation for having a sturdy population of neo-Nazis. You can put loving 1488 in your player name, and CCP won't blink an eye (and might even give you a warning for harassing the guy in local over his white supremacist references)... ... right up until a self-avowed neo-Nazi runs for CSM, and generates a bunch of negative press for doing so, at which point CCP goes "we don't like racists" and frantically starts laundering their panties, forcing a rename for anyone with 1488 in their name.

pretty much it comes down to are you being offensive in general or aiming it at one person. You can name your ship 1488 but you can't message someone that was persecuted by the Germans (or ironically an actual German) and say 1488. Also if you scam someone, don't make it super personal. CCP has banned players for out of game harassment so I don't ever get scam marks on comms anymore, that way there is a chat log of everything I've said to them.

Actually they didn't care that he ran and they let him run the previous year despite being fully aware of his views. They only put a stop to it because a core few posters (basically the GSF Eve-O few) whipped up as much noise as possible until CCP took a soul searching few days to decide it wasn't kosher. Up till that point, they were still probating people in the thread and silencing people pointing it out, even going as far as to sanitise his post history of his racial purity rants without probating Fon himself. Then there was one guy who was so literally grrGONS that he was supporting the neo-Nazi views on principle just because we were arguing against them.

I'm not sure our definitions of dickhole are the same. There was a guy in alliance with me years ago who convinced a femme player that she could travel across the country and move in with him. She was 19 or some poo poo, he was older like me and ex-navy. General discharge, I found out through other people. It was common knowledge that she was going against her parents' wishes and forgoing college. I tracked down her parents (dad was a cop). Then I did the same thing as the first guy, and coaxed her into agreeing to move out and live it up with me. I bought her a plane ticket to an airport somewhat near her parents' home. They picked her up but their second chance didn't last. Her mother said the girl left to live with the guy again, and they didn't know where she was. No one in alliance figured out why her parents knew she would be at the airport. Her dad and I agreed we should say the FBI grilled me about why I was involved with a missing person. After a few months the guy called me a piece of poo poo or whatever over the whole thing, and I laid it out for him. It's been three years, no idea how she's doing. So when you say dickhole and telling the person to kill himself, is it someone like that?
