I have to admit that my lovely layout that is all rep gear/non fleet bought junk can still get 3rd place/2nd place in most stfs it is kinda amazing how bad the pubs are at building poo poo.

My tac guy out-DPSs most pubbies in a garbage T5U D'Kyr. It's not the ships in and of themselves, it's the traits. With the goon population in STO being what it is right now, anybody who joins up is going to need to pug if they want to actually get their rep poo poo done in a reasonable timeframe. And if you're pugging, your carrying the team, because this is STO. Which means you'll need all the serious game-changer ship traits to get anywhere. You don't need epic MK XIV AP beams to be effective, but you sure as hell need reciprocity, pedal to the metal, all that good poo poo. And since most of that is locked behind a 30 dollar paywall and grinding out the exp on what is likely a bad ship, it's kind of a sucky system.

Yeah, I am definitely not that invested in doing that, though I have a few thousand zen kicking around from playing the dil market that I could pick something up. As an eng captain with none of the new Intel or Command or Pilot officers, however, meh. The only T6 ship I have is the veteran one, the Chimera derivative? That, an old bugship, and my Excelsior Cstore edition are the ships I play most. It's been a little over a month since I started playing again, and I'm almost up to tier 5 in every rep except Iconian. The rest are easy to get.

Sneaky Kettle, you know that the last two missions on the Kobali Adventure Zone let you pick Iconian Rep? Only 5 points, but if you're just wanting the daily bonus, there's usually a bunch of people doing the second-last one (At the Gates/Breaking the Wall) for that very reason. And it daily gets you a Datacore too. It's much less painful to do that once a day than actually try and pug the loving STFs. MikeJF fucked around with this message at 13:31 on Oct 8, 2015 |

But it's insane to actually buy a T5 ship now if you're just starting out, since it lacks a trait to give you and will invariably be replaced by a superior T6 variant somewhere down the line, at which point you'll never touch the T5 ship again. Well yeah, if you're starting out right now you should just go right to T6 I'm just saying if you've got T5 ships from the before times you can get by with them just fine with an upgrade token from the exchange without having to actually spend real money.

Hate to break it to you but you're doing gently caress all damage now, especially if you're still using old builds and cannons. Also I'm stunned anybody actually likes the story content, I mean it's stuff to do and it sort of guides you but the story is so loving bad it's not even funny. I actually liked the story content. It wasn't great, but neither was STO. It was sort of like playing a mediocre star trek rpg which there really isn't anything like that. Delta Rising kind of killed that though since you arbitrarily had to grind just to get to the next ten minute long mission. Even some of the DR stuff was neat, but I have no idea how the quality kept up after the Iconians showed up and stuff since I stopped playing by then.

It also let's you choose Delta marks and will give a ancient core. So you can choose iconian marks for the first mission and delta on the second and get your dailies for both done in a shirt period of time.
