The iPad pro is interesting to me but I would want to read some reviews before I decided to get one.
I have an Air 2 currently and it's awesome for what I do with it. I browse the web, read comics on it, once in a while I'll sketch some stuff on it. It's quite light and the size makes easy to take around places. I have an Apple leather case on it, which isn't a great case (pretty pricey) but it is a good case if you want some protection without bulk. I usually sell my current iPad and use that money to upgrade to a new one but I haven't felt that way with the Air 2. I could easily see myself using it for two or three years before I upgrade.
Now onto the Pro. It looks awesome for reading comics, watching videos and multimedia in general. Going by the specs and using a 6S with an A9 chip the hardware in the Pro should be beastly. Adobe leaking it has 4GB of ram (I think a developer used Xcode and image assets or some such to verify this as well but not 100% sure) should be amazing. When Apple bumped the memory on the Air 2 to 2GB it was easily noticeable how better it ran so I can't imagine how much better the Pro will do with 4. The pencil looks pretty great for drawing and taking notes (pixar artist seem to have liked it quite a bit). I don't type a lot on my iPad so can't really comment on the keyboard case. My concern is with the size and weight though. The iPad 2 (the Air models too obviously) had a good weight for using one handed in my opinion at 1.3lbs (the Air is 1lb and Air 2 is a bit lower than that I believe). The pro is coming in at 1.59lbs (the third generation iPad was like 1.4lbs and I did not like using it one handed because it felt heavy) coupled with its size seems to me like it could be awkward for reading or one handed use.

So yea, I guess even if money isn't a concern it boils down to what you want to do with it. I want to wait for some reviews and play around with a Pro in person before I would jump on one.

Yes, but only because the main thing I use my iPad for at this point is reading comics so the extra screen size would be useful. I wouldn't get the keyboard or pen.

Clue: Zero
I would need to hold a Pro before making a decision to upgrade from an Air 1; specs are awesome, but how much does the extra size and weight impact holdability? It might be what gets me to use two iPads; the Pro for when I'm mostly stationary like when on an airliner or in bed or a hotel room, and a mini to carry around.

But none of them have 3D Touch, so buy now or wait?

Nah, form is the key consideration for me. I don't think I'll ever buy anything larger than the mini. iPhone, iPad mini, and MBA (with an external monitor and Bluetooth kb+mouse) together are perfect for everything I use computers for. The pro seems to be suited for MBA use cases with none of the advantages of an actual laptop and all of the headaches of a tablet.

If I did a lot of tablet and stylus work on my MacBook I would probably have a different answer.

Fuck the DH
The iPad Pro weighs more than my Nexus 10, which I already can't hold in one hand for long periods of time. In it's case, which increases it's weight to iPad Pro levels, and weight is continuously an issue.

I think it does some great things, particularly when it comes to audio, but if it's my only iPad then I'd rather have two speakers and force touch in an Air 2 sized machine if I could.

I think I'll probably get an iPad Pro; I don't use my iPad 3 much in situations where I have to stand up and hold it one-handed now, and I just switched to a 6s+ from a 5, which I think obviates my need for a Mini.

Sorry, guy.
I have an Air 1.

I'm definitely getting a Pro because I want to start drawing again and also my literal only major use case for my iPad now is a bed-TV for my wife and I while our kids sleep. So larger is better I this case. Also the speaker balance. :)

I'm actually considering Surface 4 instead, sucks that it's still so laptop-like and is shoddily built probably. Maybe next one wont have a fan? My problem with Pro is there is really no professional software on iOS that one can use a stylus with. Even the best select few apps like Procreate are toylike. There is no decent animation software, not to mention 3d. with Surface I can copy all of my desktop poo poo and start working, stylus has buttons and it's included.

I'm seeing people with surfaces doing big boy stuff. I'm just gonna look like a clown using Procreate next to someone with serious software. Procreate can't even import psd. Man who knew Microsoft was right all along.

For what it's worth, it's sort of chicken and egg the way I see it... And in this case I think the Chicken {Pro} needs to exist before the Egg {serious apps} will be developed.

True, but Surface already has everything. Adobe and Autodesk both have been releasing proof of concept iPad apps for years, maybe with Pro they can finally make something big. I'm a little tired of waiting.

By the way, iOS 9 gave current iPads better precision. Sketching in Paper feels better now, the waviness on diagonal lines is gone as far as I can tell, with a plastic disk stylus at least. I was hoping this will also affect fine tip styluses but they still have massive offset issues.

Oh I wasn't weighing in on Surface v IPad Pro. Never touched a Surface.

Just saying, once the Pro is out. There'll probably be some...uhh... Pro-tier apps developed for it.

Agree; they're made very well. I really like the build quality.

We have a SP in the house (my SO uses it) and I like it, but I think it's still this weird, stilted hybrid of a device. It's great for stylus things, inside of apps that have been using things like Wacom styli for years, but it completely falls apart outside of that (a notable exception might be made for something like OneNote); personally I think the keyboard and an external mouse is sort of a requirement for that device.

For me personally, the iPad Pro would win at using it without the stylus - I mean, I'd still want a keyboard if I were using it to write an extended piece, but it's way more usable as a touch-only device. The downside is that for the moment, and possibly for a very long time, the same sort of powerful apps won't be available. I think the trade-off is worth it, but I a lot of people won't.

As a Surface Pro 3 owner in addition to an iPad Air, yes to most of the above. It's a compromise device. It's a well-made compromise device, and useful for people who need to run Windows applications in a small form factor, but it is a much worse tablet than an iPad, especially with the "non-touchiness" of Windows 10 and lack of apps, and not quite as good for "normal" Windows as a dedicated laptop without the compromise keyboard (hoping the Surface Pro 4 one they announced would work with the Pro 3 is better) and cooling challenges the SP3 faces.

We just got my mom an Air 2 because she found out she can work from it, which means she'll need a case with a keyboard. Any recommendations? The more bulletproof, the better, because I can easily see her letting my 3 year old nephew use it. A cursory Amazon search indicates you can pay as much or as little as you want. Are the OP recommendations still valid?

The QODE Ultimate Pro is my go to recommendation for anyone who wants a keyboard/case combo. I have one and love it. The cool thing is since it's all magnetic you can remove the iPad while it's still in the hard case and use the Smart Cover with it.

Typing from this one on my Air 2. It's not as nice as the one linked up-thread, but it's also 1/4 the price. If you don't want to spend a ton of money, I'd recommend this one as it's worked great for me. My 3 year old uses my iPad from time to time and it's held up fine with the case.

If you don't mind buying separately, the Logitech Keys-to-Go, at 6mm, is thin enough to fit anywhere an iPad can.

I like using it, at least. :shobon:

Will the 3 year old nephew be using the keyboard part, and does it really need to be a keyboard case or can the two be separate? The Apple wireless keyboard with an Origami case works quite well and can accommodate an ipad in all but the most ridiculous of protective enclosures (I'm thinking the ones that look like they're made of gym mat for babies when I think of incompatible, not an otterbox-type case). Keyboards for the iPad really come down to personal preference whether they'll be used or not, my mother was a professional typist back when that was a thing, so even though she hasn't used a proper computer with any regularity since DOS reigned supreme, any other keyboard just went unused.

Thank you everyone for the recommendations. The separate keyboard/case idea is a new one for me, and might make more sense since the nephew shouldn't be using the keyboard. I'll show her the recommended cases to try and get a feel for what she wants and go from there.

Every now and again I'll lose my wifi connection on my mini 4. If I turn airplane mode on and then back off it reconnects immediately but if I try to reconnect under wifi settings it'll ask for my password over and over again no matter what sometimes. I got this thing about a week ago, is this something I could get an exchange for or is there any other fix?

Here's a dumb question, does it happen everywhere?

I thought I had a similar problem with my Macbook Pro (brand new, internet constantly dropping out and recovering).

Further checking revealed that the router was set to expire leased addresses every hour. Everyone else though the occasional website was timing out. I only noticed cause Apple Music does a piss poor job of recovering from a dropped connection.

Bumped up the lease time to 24 hours, problem disappeared (and my mom complained a lot less about netflix suddenly dropping. ;))

They'd return boxes with gutted shells, locked or liquid damaged phones, in some instances a literal empty box.

Somedays they'd just get lucky and land the 3 day old specialist who'd never done a return and win big.

One day a dude just walked in, picked up a B&W Zeppelin http://www.apple.com/au/shop/produc...78e0d3e69e3c4f1 and literally walked out. No one realised for about 5 hours.
