schnickety scribe posted:My aunt is outright afraid of birds. I only found this out when we got Simon and she was like "Oh, okay. Yeah, I'm afraid of birds, so..." She's a really good sport about it, though, and actually wants to get over her bird fear. She hasn't gotten to come visit yet (she's a nurse, so she doesn't really have time to), but she was there when jade and I had Pazuzu and Simon at the family gathering. She insisted on petting Pazuzu and got the biggest grin that she was brave enough to touch a bird. Then she proudly told my uncle that she had touched a bird. I'm helping, yay!

Potato Salad posted:Is the scuffle they had on your finger acceptable roughhousing? Yeah, it looks violent but it's easy to tell when they're just annoyed and when they're seriously aggressive. Steve has never outright bitten Ohtori (that hitting with his beak is him at his worst) and he's able to get away at any point, and Ohtori is too busy regurgitating and half-heartedly trying to feed Steve to do anything else.

Then he realized that Judah would talk back to him in cockatiel/human cadence and while my landlord was doing work outside this summer and had the kid with him, the kid would be peering in the door across the room and chattering at Judah, who loved it Made me excited for when my niece is big (and responsible) enough to be introduced to Judah. My 8-year-old niece has been in love with Simon ever since we got him. Every time we see her, "Where's Simon? Did you bring Simon? How's Simon?" If we have the birds with us, "Can I hold Simon?" She just loves when he sits on her finger, and it drives her up the wall when he climbs up onto her shoulder because she just likes looking at him. My 4-year-old nephew also likes the birds. He has been allowed to lightly pet Pazuzu, but that is the extent to which his desire to have bird contact goes. Mostly he just likes pointing at them and saying, "Look! It's a bird!" with this big grin on his face, then laughing the moment they do anything (really, anything, it doesn't matter, he seems to think they're the funniest things).

That's friggin' adorable This kid just loved Judah, and Judah is a male cockatiel so anyone paying him attention is the best person in the world. Both your niece and nephew sound like they're well on their way to being idiots like us who laugh at pictures of birds all day long It's a good life

My now 2 year old nephew sees me and says "t-beezy BIRD!" Tbeezy is short for auntie beezy. But that boy loves him some Frybird. I was going to leash fry up for nephews bday party yesterday, but Fry was having no part of it.

Would any of y'all happen to be around Glen Mills, PA? A friend of mine living out that way texted me asking what I knew about lovebirds, which I told him was admittedly not much. I was hoping to find a specialist of some sort I could point him in the direction of in his area.

I tried to take a photo but it's too dark. Currently looking at a fine example of a cinnamon pearl lutino cockatiel hanging on to the bars on his/her cage by his/her beak with his/her yellow belly smooshed up to the cage while staring directly at me. I have no explanation for this.

Okay, it seems Toast can eat pellets well enough, and can crunch them up in her beak and knows they're edible. She is just at that stage of switching over where she's realised she's not getting unlimited seed forever and ever and ever and will have to actually eat her pellets if she doesn't want to be hungry and is going "Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy why must you do this to me? I am going to DIE of not eating enough SUNFLOWER SEEDS and it will all be YOUR FAULT and ONLY YOU can fix this by giving me MORE SUNFLOWER SEEDS right now! Look, I even know where you keep the INFINITE SUPPLY of sunflower seeds! Let me show you where they are! I could be not starving RIGHT NOW! You heartless MONSTER OH NO look I'm reduced to CHEWING THE LAPTOP CORD out of hunger." She seems to prefer the uncoloured pellets (which are apparently mostly identical, nutritionally, to the coloured ones, which Bitey preferred), possibly because they look more seed-coloured (and like her baby food goop). e: weighed her, she's putting on a little weight so she IS probably eating the pellets when I can't see her doing it and she knows there is no chance of getting more sunflower seeds.

Argon. Potassium decays into argon, and that is how the Curiosity rover determines the age of rocks on Mars.
