Hmm, I wonder what the difference is between the US and Syria is?:downs:

So... either there needs to be more gun control in Syria, or the US needs to have a gun control policy that's similar to Syria, aka active warzone of country that's famous for being a blood-soaked hellhole and embroiled in a civil war.

The irony is that Gary's cartoon is more accurate than it should have been, given that we just dropped 50 tons of ammunition to the YPG.

Legislatures try to push them constantly and I think one passed recently.

I just want to be able to use the bathroom without fearing for my life like I do every other waking moment :(

e: Looked it up. It's Wisconsin and it hasn't passed yet. The city of Houston is also involved in a similar thing; a pro-transgender bill might be passed and conservatives are freaking out about it

Why aren't bathrooms everywhere just single units where anyone of any gender can micturate and defecate with impunity? Hell, if it's as important as people make it out to be for women to have a private place, make a room with a camera in it that women can go have panic attacks or avoid creepy men or whatever the secondary restroom purpose is. That way, 1.) bodily functions and social issues aren't bring thrown together, 2.) there's no security blind spot for women to be sexually assaulted by a male or someone "pretending" to be male.

I keep hearing the same circular arguments and I can't see any problem with dividing the bathrooms into lockable, single-entry restrooms and leaving the whole gendered group dynamic out of it.

Hell, I have no great love of whipping my doodad out in front of a bunch of other guys, I'm not about to complain about that particular social encounter going by the wayside.

Because 99% of buildings weren't designed that way and it's kinda a dick move to tell everyone to rebuild their bathrooms. Just let people go in the ones they identify with, we don't need the dick cops making sure you're in the 'right' one.

Florida's bill got the most buzz earlier this year, but died in committee. If it had passed, it not only would have provided for jail time for transgender people using the restroom of the gender they identify as, but it would also have allowed for civil penalties to be levied against allies who let them do so.

So try to follow along. There's a Heaven and a Hell. No amount of good deeds can justify getting into Heaven, but a single, solitary sin is sufficient justification for going to Hell. God, who has Perfect Knowledge Of All Space And Time, has extended his divine grace to an elect few (in relation to the rest of humanity) for salvation. The omnipotent, omniscient deity has foretold and foreordained all of this! And yet somehow you, Mr. Christian, are expected to feel guilty about not warning people about the terror of Hell that awaits them should they not receive the divine grace which God may or may not have extended to them. As if the thought of someone going to Hell just for being an observant Buddhist or a mildly annoying Neo-Pagan was somehow... unjust

This is what ultimately drove me from belief. I couldn't parse the mental gymnastics required for 'God is omnipotent and can do loving *anything*' and 'God wants to save you and not let you burn in hell, but you have to ask him to'.

He's a loving father who wants whats best for us! But he also allows there to be an option for eternal suffering. These are exclusive to one another. Either God is a monster who allows 90% of people to burn in hell, or he's a loving father who would do anything to make sure you're safe. Alternatively: God wants to help you, but is unable to do so, or god is the creator of the world and can do anything he wants, even if it breaks all logical sense because he's omnipotent and omniscient. (Take that Free Will! God knows what you're going to do, before you do it! So the argument of free will is irrelevant)

I would feel bad because everyone has the potential to be a good person. Every person is a world unto themself, and the mind within contains trillions of stories and thoughts and feelings. The loss of something like that, I feel is a tragedy. No person is set in stone to the point that they cannot change themselves if they truly will it.

That said he is currently a massive dickbag.

No.

e: To elaborate, they pretend it's about preventing assault, but all it does is make transwomen more likely to be victims of assault by forcing them to use the men's bathroom. The opposite case - transwomen entering women's restrooms to assault ciswomen - is virtually unheard of. That doesn't stop people from being terrified that this will happen.

Basically, conservatives - and non-conservatives, to be fair - have invented a scenario that does not occur and, in order to fix this imaginary scenario, plan to throw transwomen to the wolves.
