They needed clones modified to be unquestionably loyal to Palpatine so he could do his little coup. I think the basic plot thread with Palpatine could be solid if the execution wasn't hosed up.

It's going to be pretty hard for someone to come up with a childhood idea for the star wars prequels that's not better than what we actually got.

A better story would have used clones instead of droids for the separatists. The Republic would have had to muster an army of normal people bolstered by the Jedi. Over the course of the films the Jedi would be obviously superior and the normal rabble grew resentful of their arrogance etc. Sheev uses the populist disgust about the over class to foster a coup and install the Empire. A soviet film.

I know that the Imperial Mutiny, basically the Moffs fighting one another, defecting, or running off to the Outer Rim, does happen between RotJ and Force Awakens and that the First Order descends from that. Star Wars: Uprising supposedly even hints that the First Order gets their start out on Hoth.

I remember when the prequels were first announced and I thought Darth maul was going to be the new Darth Vader and I was psyched to seem him whip rear end with a double saber for three movies, only to see him bite it in his first big showdown.

So do any of you use the Star Wars card trader app? It's a p sweet and dumb app to look at cool star wars pics all day

I do, hit me up if you want to trade cards and poo poo. Username is Xenomrph. I only recently started messing with it so I only have a few hundred cards, but I've been checking it daily so I grab a few packs a day with the free daily credits.

Same. I started about a week and a half ago and luckily managed to get/trade for the whole grey modern set. I'll message you in-game if I can find it. Even though I can just view any card on the app at any time it still tickles my collector and I've been trading for cool looking inserts Just sent you a trade for my ESB illustrated. I don't collect them but I like some of the cool looking extras you had Chill la Chill fucked around with this message at 18:50 on Oct 5, 2015 |

I just finished reading this thread and i no longer know what to do with myself. So much terrible garbage that makes me feel better about my life and decision to never go near the EU, and now.... If I want to find more horrors of the EU, I have to... go find them.... myself..... no.....

The vast majority of the EU is garbage, but there's some things that are legitimately fun and cool (the Wraith Squadron books, a bunch of the video games) that you shouldn't deprive yourself of just because "ugh, Star Wars EU".

Problem is, people include the terrible Thrawn trilogy In there as some paragon of genre fiction. Wraith squadron was great cuz it retained the campy feel of the movies and didn't contribute to the Mary Sue "my characters are better than yours" crap that started with Thrawn. I mean lol an even ~more brilliant~ admiral that learned everything from art pieces? great idea but horrible execution

Just a competent military leader who wasn't involved in the internal politics of the Empire. He didn't have magic tactical powers, he just played to his enemy's weaknesses, didn't stick to Imperial doctrine at all times and ended up getting in a neat little "gently caress You" against Zaarin at the very end. The Thrawn the books gave us was just a really bad Space Rommel

Oh god imagine if they had made a series of books about a Super-Veers that the 501st could incorporate (IMO those 501st guys are really just cowards who don't want to don a real SS uniform for "reenactments" )

You mean like Star Wars costuming guys? I'm pretty okay with it, but I'm mildly biased. A friend recruited me to dress up as a TIE Fighter pilot for a Halloween festival in Queen Creek a few years back, there were like 30 of us dressed up as random Star Wars storm troopers and pilots and scout troopers and poo poo. Having small children run up to you and shout "STAR WARS!!!!" and hug your leg while you can barely see out of the helmet is hilarious and adorable.

Yeah I've got several friends who are 501st costuming group members, and a lot of them are crazy talented creatively and mechanically. They do charity events, visit sick children in the hospital, etc. All in all I think they're good people.

IIRC, the official stance on games (at least before Disney) is that the stories are canon but the gameplay is not, which makes sense considering how many times major movie events have come up in games and they are played nothing like the movies themselves. It leads to some pretty hilarious to try and make the games fit in with other events.
