Mid-Atlantic accents still crop up naturally today! Mostly in the children of Anglophone expatriates. So it's not all snobby rich idiots. I should know, I had one when I was a kid, and still have vestiges of it today.

A proper mid-Atlantic accent is based on a form of RP that is several decades out of date and sounds ridiculous to modern British ears so you probably never had one.

http://mitrailleuse.net/2015/10/10/social-class-in-america-the-inequality-we-ignore/ This is a shittastic article, but this part is great: quote:With the neoliberal GOP moving leftward on social issues and the Democrats losing their economic populism, we are left with two brands of big-government quasi-libertarianism: one for the dwindling middle class, and one for the gentry and their expanding class of dependents. Guess which party is which. http://mitrailleuse.net/2014/09/03/towards-a-neoreactionary-aesthetic/ This article is also a sight to behold: quote:The phallic form itself is emblematic of Exit. That which pierces the heavens comes to a point; it elongates, it thrusts, it penetrates through barriers, even the firmaments themselves. While not beautiful in and of themselves, skyscrapers have a quality of Exit to them morphologically. The flying-machine, the rocket, the ship, the car, all of these present aspects of the aesthetic of Exit. Exit is masculine, transcendent and impregnated with distance. Exit is aggression, conquest, domination; but it is also exploration, discovery and adventure. It is the begetter.

Bronies have this really weird thing where they shoehorn MLP into literally everything they do. They write gigantic fanfics about Ponies in Fallout, too, having to jump through hoops just to make the idea of a pony firing a gun work. It can not be rationally explained, it just is. It's not conservatives being attracted to MLP for some weird reason, it is a Bronie who skews right for whatever reason doing what a Bronie does.

No one I've seen on the nets ever likes the Inquisitors who are basically the parody of self inserts. They do whatever they want get alot of power in doing so and inevitably cause things to go tits up in their 'pragmatism' that causes every other faction to clean up the mess.

I see the new alt-right as a natural result of the current generation growing up with the anonymity of imageboards and their whole shock-for-shock's-sake culture and extreme ideas about free speech being free from consequences, etc. I mean I grew up in /b/ too and right up until I left the site I leaned pretty heavily libertarian because /b/ seemed like some kind of fight-club-esque pulling back the veil of civil society and extreme libertarianism kinda extends from that idea. I then grew up and reconsidered my position on lovely ideas, but a lot of people didn't.

I was in a poetry workshop that visited a nuclear research facility and I was the only one uplifted by the beautiful machines on display instead of writing horrified Luddite screeds. But I'm sure art that glorifies steel and glass and science already exists; most art does. And I'm sure ' NrX art' will be terrible because nerds have no sense of aesthetics. Stop this horrific pillage of nothing from nobody. I mean trying to live on Mars permanently is indeed pretty dumb, but evil? E: it gets even better. The Spanish destroyed their own economy and sank their own dreams of global empire by mismanaging their resource extraction regime on purpose, because by "overturning the economy" would hurt the peasants. Sticking it to the poors was totally worth ruining the future of the empire and giving the hated Protestants of England the chance to unseat them as the preeminent world power and spend the next 400 years defaming and humiliating them. Yeah, sure. Woolie Wool has a new favorite as of 23:59 on Oct 14, 2015 |
