This is something on our radar and is something we’re keen to implement in the game as part of a future update, but we have nothing to announce on that at the moment.

It's like 400+ ly away from most systems so you can get smuggling missions worth 5+ million since payout scales with distance.

It seems like stations that are farther away or less frequented now bump the rewards up to entice people to take them. Sothis is the farthest station, so it can generate some ridiculous payouts, depending on your ranks and local faction standing.

That said, they seem to have loosened the restrictions on missions in general, so you don't have to go there. It's just very efficient for Asps and other long-range pilots.

On a personal note, I've been grinding away for ages to get over 100 million credits. I had been stuck at the 60-70mil range for a very long time. Sothis just netted me ~25mil for two trips. :)

Drake_263

It's also nice variety from the typical grind. It takes a lot of time, has reasonable challenge and pays well - I've done two Sothis runs and worked up maybe fifty million in two days. I think I'll give it a shot or two more and fund myself a T9.

Mind you, jump range, fuel tank and cargo hold all play into Sothis.

In a DBE fitted for 24.7LY jumps with 20 cargo and a 3A fuel scoop, leaving from Goat-Xihe and travelling to Sothis, spending 10 minutes resetting the boards to get as many 1mil+ missions as possible and then dipping out with the Sothis rare good to the destination areas 420-470LY away took about 90 minutes, give or take a few smoke breaks. My payout was 12.5mil after all was said and done. 11 million from Sothis missions, another 1.5 from rare good and grabbing commodities between mission drop offs.

my wild optimism here is that there will be stuff like carrying tanks and infantry for this.

It would be really cool to be able to fly around with some marines or something, to help with battles for surface installations or space stations, and to help board and defend ships. Seems like we already have the "tanks" coming up in Horizons though.

LCL-Dead posted:

What everyone else said. I used to power down as low as possible coming into large stations but don't anymore. Running the Sothis missions last night I would just approach the station and at about 4km out I'd go into silent running and poo poo a hockey puck out the rear end of my ship to bring my head down below 10% for just long enough to get in the gates. I'd do the same on the way out since I was still carrying illicit cargo and it's not unheard of for system security to hit you with a scan as you leave.

The speed thing is true as well, though you risk ramming another ship and potentially losing your own if you bounce off of enough surfaces. Even if a scan starts, if you can get through the mail slot, it won't finish. That's why you'd want to get through fast. With the silent running and hockey pick (Heat sync) method I don't really have to boost or hurry myself in. (knock on wood)

Just make sure you don't do it while drunk. I once lost a python loaded with 186 tons of rares doing that (some of them were illegal at the station). I thought I was lined up with the slot, but instead i hit the cage at 200 meters per second :v:

This is correct. I went there last night in an Asp fit posted in the Elite PGS thread. Took me about 3 hours start to finish to get out to Sothis, cheese reloading to pick up missions in the 2-5 million payout range (got about 12 of these), fly back to colonized space, then dock at 12 different outposts/stations to turn in and get paid. All in all this netted me 45 million for the entire thing. I plan to do a similar outing each night until they inevitably nerf this because Frontier hates semi-casual players getting spacerich and want only the grindiest of sperglords to be able to fly Anacondas apparently.

Learn how to fly your ship before anything else. Fly around a station, learn your maps and controls, learn how to dock. The game doesn't hold your hand in this regard. You're really flying a loving space ship.

Jesus gently caress..

What's the rebuy on that? (I can't go to the link but 80 million gives me a decent idea of the fitting)

Is FD going to do anything about the poo poo cost scaling here? It costs me 12 mil to fit a 4.5 mil vulture in all a class fittings. It shouldn't cost me 60mil to fit a 20mil ship.

You'd be surprised on the trade rank thing. I did my 45 mil run last night all from missions obtained at trade rank Merchant (achieved when you have around 3-4 million in trade profits to your name.) It took a fair bit of resetting the bulletin board to get the desirable 2-5 mil payout missions though. Usually I'd see one pop up every 3-4 resets. I'd say I spent a good hour just resetting the bulletin board before I found 12 solid payout missions, but it is certainly doable at lower trade ranks.

Hoping that tonight now that I have reached Broker that things will be much more profitable. :getin:
