Usually when people tell me they have nothing to hide i just ask them for their salary. They usually counter with the govt already knows. I just repeat my question, since they have nothing to hide. Because you might not care if the govt knows how much you make, or how much you owe the hospital or your credit rating, but you don't want your friends and neighbors to know (in this case, our neighbors are China and russia, and they already have your medical information).

Yep, from all this, I'm pretty certain Carson went to Trump and they're working together. Trump hopes Carson keeps the others from gaining ground, eventually gives up, and then becomes VP.

Nintendo Kid posted:Is that an actual real effect or is there simply higher scrutiny on suicides and fewer get ignored after a major one? It is a very well documented real effect that has been studied heavily, but I can't link studies right now because I'm on my phone; Google should turn up plenty of data. It extends to type and method of suicide as well as raw numbers -- a celebrity commits suicide via car crash, you will see an uptick in suicide totals and an uptick in suicide by car crash, both.

If the debate ran the top 5 it'd be what; Trump, Carson, Fiorina, Rubio, and... Jeb? You know Trump watched the DNZ debate and saw how it was 90% Clinton/Sanders and wants the RNC debates to be the same instead of the 10 man clusterfucks where nobodies get to take up time he (and Carson and the RNC's current Chosen One(s)) would have instead.

This is all part of the Trump plan. He's said before he wants the debate to be only the top 5 at most, no Huckabee, Christie, Paul bullshit. He's giving them demands (cannot be more than 2 hours, opening and closing remarks) that they can't meet unless the debate was sans the low-energy morons. They can't change their guidelines to remove people this late in the game, and they're not going to be able to meet the demands. Trump drops out, Trump starts the narrative that the media is afraid of him with crazy incontrovertible proof that they locked him out of the debate, he skyrockets in the polls. But more importantly, the ratings for the debate nosedive, the next debate holders know they need Trump, and they revise their rules to demand at least 8% in the polls, leaving the debate to Trump, Carson, Rubio, Cruz... maybe Fiorina hasn't completely imploded by then, but she's probably done. Jeb spent 24 million dollars to lose his ratings.

I think the GOP establishment would rather go to top 6 candidates than have a top 5 debate with Cruz over Bush. Trump, Carson, Rubio, Fiorina, Bush, and Cruz probably isn't absolute poison to the GOP.

BI NOW GAY LATER posted:kk, I am having the same dumb debate about how morality and policy can be exclusive. I dug it up My father is a civil engineer. I pass a $2 trillion infrastructure bill with the goal of handing this contracts to my family and friends. It will also result in a massive redistribution to the working class, a sharp drop in unemployment, and put the country in an overwhelming position for future growth and economic dominance due to our now best in the world infrastructure. I want one party rule of the bureaucracy, since that is where a lot of the real power lies. So I pass a bill doing a complete top down reformation of how the government works, yanking back privatized functions, updating all our systems with a future focused technology policy and an org and reward system focused on fast user satisfaction and transparency; that way I can fire all the party X appointees as "redundant", push their past screwups to justify more firings as "transparency", and make the voters so happy and an easy to access and responsive government they don't let the bastards back in for a decade, kneecapping the oppositions ability to groom and promote new prospects. Evangelical support is critical to my opponents coalition, and they are mainly motivated by abortion opposition. So I pass a bill for free contraception, free family planning counseling, free prenatal care, comprehensive sex-Ed, a Nordic style "new parent support" giveaway, universals daycare/pre-K, and overhaul the adoption system making it easier for LBGT couples to adopt. Abortion falls to a quarter of its earlier numbers, he can't get out the vote, I cruise to reelection Don't tell me good policy is grounded in good morals. I could run this country like I'm Doctor Doom and enact policy that would have you all building statues to me. Edit: and that's what your link went to. Deep
