Remember "Brewsters Millions" where Richard Pryor's character ran for mayor on a ludicrous platform as a way to burn off some of the money that he had to waste but he ended up winning? Same idea, but Ben Carson was trying to make money.

I should add this only holds if Hillary is the nom. The only possible path to President Trump runs through a Bernie nomination.

So Carson's polling at around 20% right now. Hypothetically, if he dropped out instead of just suspending his campaign, who would his supporters move to? Trump? Huckster? Anyone have any solid info on the "second choice" candidate of Carson's supporters?

At this point, all you have to do is read what goons say in USPol and then believe the opposite. The USPol groupthink was that:

- Bernie was going to instantly flame out
- Trump would never run
- Trump would never release his financials
- Trump would never poll anywhere near the serious frontrunners

As much as USPol groupthink likes to make fun of the average voter, this thread sure has a lot of wrong assertions.

Bernie's not going third party. If he was seriously in this to win at even the expense of the Democratic Party, he wouldn't have gifted Hillary that email poo poo and shook her hand. He really is in it just to make sure Hillary stays honest, is my firm opinion.

To be fair, literally every pundit in the country thought all that stuff. This primary cycle has confounded the conventional wisdom on presidential politics.

Cruz would pick up most of his supporters with some going to Trump or Rubio.

Also Bernie wasn't thought to be a flame out, he's just getting more support than what most people thought. This is probably because the media want's a horse race narrative more than anything else, but Bernie was in this mostly to shift Hillary to the left, not to actually win the nod.

Yeah, no. Do you really think Bernie is so repulsive to the party that handily won 08 and 12 that they'll just "No thanks, Ill stay home let that Trump fellow steer the ol' ship of state for a bit."

Nah mang. Whomever gets the Democratic nomination is going to be our President. Barring some sort of Dead Girl/Live Boy situation with either Obama or the nominee.

I definitely think Bernie would have to fight harder to win than Hillary would. After a certain point it's just a matter of public perception.

Yeah under that scenario I think the media will be perfectly complicit with Trump in framing the contest as "capitalism vs socialism" and I don't trust the electorate not to reflexively reject anything called socialist.

Nah. Losing three in a row would be (and is going to be) super embarrassing for the party.

How come every other book tour Presidential candidate seems to be able to handle campaigning while also shilling their ghostwritten book, but Carson straight up suspends his campaign to go sign books?

Especially when he's consistently polling so well, it's bizarre. Does he want to get out before Iowa?

Why not? Everyone that wasn't interested in playing the "both sides are equal" game knows that the republican base are pretty much all racists and Trump is just exposing that.

Because he's taken this ride about as far as he wants to take it and being an actual frontrunner is more than he signed on for.
