It's October and looking at the upcoming cards theres pretty limited time left for a Fighter of the Year. There are two slam dunk situations - if Conor beats Aldo or if Cerrone beats Dos Anjos they are far far ahead of the pack. Apart from them the cases are Demetrious, who is always in the top three but because it's Flyweight *shrug*, Chris Weidman (though he needs to beat Rockhold first), and Joanna Champion (but of cause, shallow as gently caress).

If Conor and Cerrone both lose I have no idea who is the best fighter this year.

Bethe didn't get her title shot for being relatively good in the divison though. She got it for being good at promoting herself. She probably made enough bank to really help with the rest of her life.

In the context of "all MMA fighters are bad (except Jon Jones unfortunately)", Ronda's opponents aren't really that bad for an immature division at the upper end of the gender's size scale. Women are never going to be as physically impressive as men, and there is plenty of WTF in men's title fights in the heavier divisions. This year a guy who was flopping on his rear end like a fish four years ago became champion by beating up the most impressive heavyweight of all time who was too stupid to train at altitude. Chris Weidman fought a deflated male sex doll. Robbie Lawler defended his title against a guy who is too stupid and lazy to be not fat.

he did lose (and cry) but he had a competitive 3 rounds with the champion and then beat the two other top guys in the division & won a belt in the process. That's a pretty good year for anybody. Cerrone and Conor are like the only two guys who are gonna have a better year if they win their upcoming championship bouts.
