That's because they're simple. There's no extra dongles or doodads that serve no purpose but to clutter up the design in an effort to look cool.

More to the point, they had to actually build them for the set models so every detail and angle was important and done by professional artists and modelers.

Akira and Steamrunner are really the only non-awful designs since the Galaxy. Why they designed Voyager to look like a flying poo poo trowel is beyond me. Star Trek is broken.

I think it was less about the physically building and more about the fact that they were done by really good designers over an extensive design process. STO doesn't exactly have a Probert. (Hell, Probert made a fair few designs that had to be compromised on because they were physically impossible to machine. These days we'd easily do it in CG)

They added 10 more levels. The new missions generally require you to be level 60 and cryptic spent the last year nerfing any efficient way to gain XP, so have fun. You might want to wait until the new season comes out on the 27th, because they're fixing the new missions to give a better leveling experience. Getting to 60 will still take way longer than it should but at least you can do it by running episodes instead of grinding time-gated STFs.

Oh - all your ships/equipment are useless now. Enjoy the game!

If you're coming back after a hiatus, it might be a good idea to create a new character to relearn the mechanics. Depending on how long you've been gone, you've probably missed revamps to the early mission arcs, the Romulan arc and soon the Cardassian arc. S11 could be a good time to make an alt? Maybe?

I was exaggerating slightly. But the problem is a combination of mudflation and the extra 10 levels added to the game. When you left, end-game ships were T5. Now end-game ships are T6. If you had a decent T5 ship it'll still work, it's just not as good as the T6 ships*. When you left, top-tier gear was Mk XII and very-rare. Now they've added MK XIII and XIV, and ultra-rare and epic rarities. There's an upgrade system to upgrade your old equipment, which was designed to be very expensive and hide as much as possible the true cost of your equipment.

If you don't want to start a new char, your best bet is to start working on the newer reputations, and ask in chat about ships/gear.

[sub]*Ok, there are a few exceptions. Just ask in chat if you're curious.

It basically went from the most super casual friendly MMO to a extreme grind mmo with all the casual stripped out since they made the level grinding even harder now from what it used to be. You actually used to be able to get from 1 to 50 in 8 hours but you really cant do that anymore. I did that with two of my romulan characters and hate myself for that.

To put some harder numbers to this, you're looking at like 300+k dilithium plus several million credits worth of tech upgrades to get a full ship's worth of gear to MkXIV. You're looking at probably twice that if you're willing to gamble on upgrading MkII weapons in hopes they reach UR/Gold from the rank upgrades, which is not something I'd recommend for a new player but still probably worth the effort since you're looking at millions of dilithium to get all your equipment to gold quality if you're an insane endgame space-rich min-maxer. :toot: Luckily that part isn't necessary, but even the rank upgrades are a money sink and Cryptic was very careful to obfuscate just how huge a sink it is.

Korgan posted:

It's better than it was a few months ago, at least? Leveling is still bullshit, but you can actually pug advanced queues now and there's some secondary methods to get spec points now. Most of the bullshit is in the post-DR increase in ship prices, the number of kMMO level cash sinks, etc.

On the upside the Badlands space battlezone is hitting with S11 and if it's even half as good as the Undine one then it will be fun for a few weeks.

bad changes: everything in dr

good changes (undoing DR poo poo): no more insta-fail advanced stfs, spec points from FEs, admiralty system for passive xp gain, making iconian missions lv 54 or 55 so you dont run out of missions while leveling anymore.

Still there: expensive to upgrade to best in slot guns/equip, t6 ships still 3k zen each unless you buy them when they first come out

STO Pubby Bio posted:

Zoelle liberated herself at a young age and became the leader of group of liberated Orion slaves. Zoelle is strong willed and does not take no for an answer. Zoelle uses her "charm" to get what she wants. When this does not work she uses brute force. Zoelle is an expert at pleasuring both males and females and used this ability to further her career in the KDF, often seducing a Klingon captains wife before going after her mate. In Orion fashion she then has used blackmail and group sex to get what she wants.
