Also it's time for a new episode! This time Word on the Wind joins me for glitchy gametime funhour. Part 2: Hiding from Pirates, Chiding the Spiders It seems that I may have had a cold or something that I only noticed as I was editing, because I sounded a bit stuffy and raspy. Sorry about that! This episode starts out with some complicated stuff so make sure to tell me if I bungled the explanation. In fact, I definitely bungled it when I recorded it (which I'm blaming on the cold I'm not sure I had), and in fact re-recorded a small section some time later. This means that you will be more informed about what's going on in this episode than my co-commentator was. I also blatantly forgot to comment on something while it was happening! I go to Pirate's Fortress in this episode and there are some movement tricks that let me skip two pirate fights that I didn't point out. I added some annotations but if you don't like seeing those, I skip directly to the 2nd and 3rd egg rooms by falling down in a certain way, and by jumping a certain way. And thanks for the kind words about my LPs everyone, I really appreciate it. Next episode will feature Woodfall Swamp and Goron Village stuff.

Good update! I didn't notice anything wrong with your voice, and while the explanations went pretty quickly I was still able to mostly follow what was going on. That bottle duping glitch is pretty though. I found the hookshot cutscene (before fighting one of the pirates) myself. It's pretty great. Also, the 3-day challenge LP that ran here a month or two ago showed a neat thing with the New Wave Bossa Nova cutscene -- it's possible (I forget how, exactly) to switch which instrument you can use for it. In particular, you can learn the song with the Deku pipes. Normally the game tries to force you to use the guitar instead.

Oh hey, I actually noticed this one before it wrapped up. Will the Flying Zora glitch be showing up in this run? Also: Koholint Island is just a dream Link is having while unconscious from a shipwreck.

First: What. Second: The Walrus and the Carpenter were luring the oysters to their deaths. Third: I actually never played Majora's Mask, though I have picked up the basics of the structure and such via osmosis over the years. How confused am I going to be? Third-and-a-half: Going by what we've seen so far, pretty confused, but it's an entertaining train-wreck nevertheless.

On the other hand, I'm also one of those terrible people who never played these games, so as far as I'm concerned this is exactly how this game is meant to play out.

So are there any neat glitches or speedrun tactics for the giant eel section of great bay? Or is it as awful no matter what you do? So far, this seems more broken than OoT did, which is kind of interesting since it's a sequel. Mandatory spoiler: your princess is in another castle.

Funny that you think it's more broken, I suppose that's because of the 0th day stuff? I still view OoT as more 'broken' due to BA / RBA / wrong warps, but maybe the smaller but more numerous mechanics and their exploits add up for some people. But yeah there are a few things you can do for the eels, but if you are going for the seahorse heart piece then you still have to kill all of them no matter what. But there's something you can do to leave faster after you're done killing however many. If you catch something with a bottle (fish, bugs, zora eggs) Link keeps a bottle in hand on his model. That bottle acts a little differently in this state, as compared to when it's "put away." It's how I duped bottles in the last episode, using that turning animation. If you do that animation, then use a bottle and an item, glitches happen. If it's an item the form can use but doesn't put something in you're hand, like bombs if you're out of them or masks, it updates that with an empty bottle. If you use an item that gets put in Link's hand, like the bow, bombs if you have them, or zora fins, it acts as an ocarina. This is the only way to do Ocarina items in MM, it was easier in OoT. But using that in the eel section lets you soar directly back to the aquarium after you catch an egg, which you normally can't do since you can't use the ocarina underwater. It's not a large time save. Other than that there is a trick to get out of bounds to void out, but it only saves the time it takes to get back to the entrance. The biggest time save I guess is just knowing which eels have the eggs. By the way, I wanted to have the next episode out by today but some stuff came up! So sorry about that, I probably won't have it done until Wednesday. I'll try to make it up with the next episode.

Watching you take apart Zelda games is a bizarre mix of nostalgia at old Zelda games, and childish glee at watching something bizarre and wonderful. This LP is awesome, and thank you for doing it.

Then I hope you enjoy THIS NEW EPISODE. Exploring the Moors and Soaring to Gorons. This time friendpal ChaosArgate joins me once again, to help me goof around in a gross swamp and a cold mountain. As always, feel free to ask me to elaborate on anything that happens if I didn't explain it enough. In the next episode we finally get to do a dungeon! I know it took a while, but there aren't a lot of them in this game, so maybe stop being so greedy for ONCE in your lives, geez. Edit: Spoiler: Someone in this thread will die before it's over. Why are you posting a framing device? Oh hey, a new update! I'm really enjoying this, the non-linear nature of Majora is always what pushed me to love it. The previous LP was fascinating and following what you are doing here is a joy, as the only Zelda I have severely broken is Link's Awakening.

One comment in the video made me wonder, how does the Pictobox actually store an image? Does it like store your location and camera angle when you took a photo and use that to retrieve the picture? And is it possible to glitch out the Pictobox photo? Turn it into an eldritch abomination?
|
# ? Oct 22, 2015 01:07 |

I assume it just saves picture information from the current frame that's loaded into memory at the time of taking the picture, as well as any extra information related to what's in the picture if the game needs to pretend to react to something in the image. Nothing you would be able to change in the way you describe, anyway.

Yeah sorry I don't know the nitty-gritty of how the pictobox stores photos. I've actually heard it just stores them as jpegs but that might be MM3D. What I do know is that the picture apparently uses 11,000 bytes, and catching hot springs water with any mask turned into a bottle will write 25 bytes of stuff to that, which isn't really enough to do anything. Doing it to all 23 masks might have a noticeable effect but still not a large one. I don't know, I've never really checked to see if there are visible differences in the picture after you do that.
|
# ? Oct 22, 2015 01:37 |

The pictobox stores pictures as an I4 (4-bit grayscale) texture in RAM. Event flags for the picture aren't stored in that same block. The twin towers did not collapse just from the plane -- steel beams don't melt at that temperature. It was a controlled demolition.

I'm about to watch episode 3, so I'm not sure if you mention it there, but in episode 2 you didn't point out that you bought 2 sets of Bombchu's with only 70 rupees. And the reason that works is because you can mash through the buying of the first set fast enough that your rupee counter says you have over 40 rupees when you try to buy them again! Also Joffrey dies at his wedding.

Man, this is just in time, as I checked my Youtube subscriptions the other day to see what SwordlessLink was up to. For those not aware, he also does Zelda glitch- and speedruns because I can never get enough of them. Turns out he had started up an older seemingly abandoned Let's Play Majora with glitches LP again, and I watched the first unseen episode. Which was okay but I felt like he didn't have much fun doing it, and he's always doing poo poo live so a lot of the tricks can go wrong and it was just not that enjoyable. Now this shows up (finally!), and you say "ah MM is not nearly as interesting as OoT" and then you do all of these things . And the videos are just so far nicer to watch! Though I guess SwordlessLink did show the Fourth Day glitch and how to get to Gyorg from the first room of the temple. Which probably are spoilers for this LP .

Yup, we were talking about other stuff at the time so I just forgot, I was gonna point it out the next time I did it. You can do it with 69 rupees just barely, so you can save up to 11 whole rupees! WOW! In speedruns this is actually significant, it means you can buy 10 bombs and 20 chus with 99 rupees, the max you can hold for the default wallet. Kaiser Mazoku posted:SwordlessLink had to take a break cuz he was getting too frustrated. Dang, that's unfortunate. This run is incredible. MM is one of those games I never played myself, but I've absorbed enough about it by watching a bunch of other playthroughs that I get the general flow of things. You do a very nice job with the video editing, too - showing alternate universes while cutscenes play is a really nice touch. I'm glad to get in somewhat early. Tsukasa's player is a girl.
