Does synergy still break catastrophically if you take one of the computers away? I remember trying to run it between my desktop and my MacBook years ago and every time I took my laptop to work, I'd have to set it up again when I got home.

Home Depot's Special Buy of the Day is a few bamboo & stainless topped work benches with free shipping if anyone is in the market for such a thing. They have a built in a power strip and a cable management trough on the back and are rated for 2000 lbs. Looks like the models on sale don't have adjustable height, though.

I use it at work with 3 computers - one is a laptop which I take away each night.

I had that happen using it with a macbook and a windows desktop. Fixed it by making the macbook the server.

Slowhanded posted:6-year user of electric sit/stand desks checking in. If you switch between sit/stand on a regular basis (say, twice a day or more), it is very useful to own the presets, as you'll end up spending a lot of time getting into your preferred height each switch. A low-tech option is to use something in reference to the room to get the heights (e.g., a visible mark on the walls at each desk height). I have a length of string with two knots in it. Low-tech but it works.

Excuse my phone camera pictures Dual cheap monitors on a dual monitor mount. JBL LSR305s powered by Audioengine D1 Corsair 350d, 4790K, GTX 770, 840 Evo. Covered in dust. Dust gore. I've gone through probably 10 different audio setups in the last 6 months. I started with Emotiva Airmotiv 5's and a Schiit Modi/Schiit Sys. Then I sold the Sys and bought a Magni 2 Uber and HD600s. Then I returned the Emotivas because there was a rattle in one of the speakers. Then I bought Micca PB42X. Then I sold the Modi and bought an Emotiva XDA-2. Then I brought the Miccas to work and bought JBL LSR305s. Then I sold the Magni 2 Uber. Then I moved the XDA-2 into another stereo setup as a DAC/Preamp. Then I sold my HD600s. Then I bought an Audioengine D1. The crown jewel. Steelcase Leap. Got it for free. Brain Issues fucked around with this message at 20:54 on Sep 27, 2015 |

Holy mother of audio setups. I've used the same Tannoy Sensys DC1/ Pioneer VSX-1015 combo for the last nine years and haven't really felt the need to do anything to it. Going to swap to an adjustable desk shortly, may have to change things up then, or get stands for the speakers. They're not exactly small.

I'm a mess. I have 3 different audio setups in my house so I'm constantly messing around with them. I have my desktop which right now is JBL LSR305S and Audioengine D1. Then I have my 5.1 home theatre (Klipsch RB-61ii, RC-52ii, Polk Monitor 40 surrounds, PSW505 sub. Then my stereo listening room upstairs with Tekton Lore v2.0 towers and other things. Just yesterday I sold my Polk Monitor 70 towers and bought the Klipsch RB-61ii from craigslist for $180.

Triikan posted:How much do the 8 foot gladiators sell for when they're on sale? Found one on Craigslist that I'll probably pick up, but don't want to make sure I'm not paying more than I can get it on sale. Speaking of Gladiators, how one install a monitor arm on one of these? Doesn't seem like the clamps will work because the legs seem to have a panel the runs along the back. Would I have to drill through the wood to get the arm in there securely?

I installed the legs backwards on mine so the panel is at the front and the monitor arm (ergotron dual LX) mounts on the back without any trouble using the clamp.

Thanks. The entire project started with "gently caress, I need rackspace in my desk." and went from there.

I've never welded or machined anything before this. It wasn't terribly hard, just took a decent amount of time. You can see where I hosed up a bunch if you look at it for more than 30 seconds IRL, but aluminum is more forgiving than you would think.

The rack space is cool and all, but heavy rack items look really awkward to remove.
|
# ? Oct 14, 2015 16:18 |

Not really. The angle actually helps with mounting heavy stuff because I can kind of rest it on the rack as I screw it in instead of having someone else to help me. Getting it back out isn't too much worse, since I still have access from behind. That, and most audio equipment isn't very heavy. I'm never going to be putting anything much heavier than ~15 lbs in there (although I tested the welds with a ~30 lb Aventail SSL appliance I had lying around). Besides, I'll probably change the mounted equipment once a year at most. It's not like this is a home networking lab or anything (although, I guess you could totally use it for that. Hmm...). Only thing I'd like to change about it is the depth at which the monitors are placed. Besides that, super neat idea!

That man clearly does not need peripheral advice, as he is using the king of all mice. He'll take care of those monitors as needs be, just you wait and see. Monitors positioned just right, mx518 for life! (That desk looks fantastic, great job!)

If you can overlook the "gamer" stylings, it is a very comfortable, functional mouse. This is also coming from someone who has had on and off issues with CTS/RSI
