Only collectors are interested in old-timey revolvers. a semi-auto handgun ban would hit a hell of a lot of the handguns commonly owned by ordinary gun owners in the country. Sure but a new handgun today is on average someone's 5th gun or more, considering as there are more than 4 privately held guns for every American who holds a gun. And so far American gun "bans" have tended to be in the form of "after date x you can't buy new ones, but old ones can be sold and traded under y condition". So there ain't exactly going to be a shortage of them for people crazy enough to think they absolutely need another.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew appealing to my worrywart nature:quote:WASHINGTON — Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew on Monday tried to increase pressure on lawmakers to raise the nation's debt limit before a Nov. 3 deadline, warning that he feared an accidental federal government default if they wait too long. This guy gets how I feel. Both times recently the debt ceiling has been raised, I keep thinking to myself "What if the accountants missed something? What if the computers at the Treasury Department break? What if someone important in Treasury borrowing were to suddenly die?" Also surprised to hear 40% chance of default. Fojar38 posted:Will Boehner save us Boehner spear-headed the strategy of using the debt-ceiling and shutdowns to play hostage games. Shortly before becoming speaker he passed out tobacco lobbyist checks on the floor immediately after an anti-tobacco bill passed. He's not the good guy in this situation and he's extremely unreliable. The only thing he gives a poo poo about is not hurting the GOP's chances at getting elected. Note that last time we got this close in 2011 it hurt Obama's numbers more than anything because the American people thought he wasn't leading the GOP well enough.

Fried Chicken posted:500 posts, I'll assume it was gunchat again. The churches are around St Louis, and near Ferguson. Ferguson is a fairly unremarkable middle class suburb of St. Louis, which has many areas that are much, much more economically depressed than Ferguson. Some parts of North St. Louis are Detroit level of urban decay. Entirely of coincidence, these areas also have extremely high proportion of black residents (>90%) as a holdover from the decades of redlining, and legalized segregation before that. I know all this because I torched the churches to end the Negro scourge on our beautiful white city. You heard it here first

LORD OF BUTT posted:Does a double-action revolver count as semi-auto? There's a lot of those around, if Academy's gun selection is anything to go by. No because the gun does not utilize energy from the fired cartridge to cycle the action. The action is cycled by cocking the hammer or pulling the trigger in double action.

Fojar38 posted:Will Boehner save us Probably! There's always the chance of error, but his office is already in negotiations with the Senate and White House to finalize a proposal. Though the Freedom Caucus might scream and moan, there are enough Republicans in the other caucuses to pass a bill. Hopefully, the House will find a coherent leader by the time this issue rears it's head again next year. When that happens, there might not be a John Boehner around to save the country.

Oh it's worse than that quote:The dozens of offenders who showed up that day, old and young, filed out of the Perry County courthouse and waited their turn at a mobile blood bank parked in the street. They were told to bring a receipt to the clerk showing they had given a pint of blood, and in return they would receive a $100 credit toward their fines — and be allowed to go free. We take a pint of your blood and put it towards the interest and fees associated with your fines. Hell in some cases, some of it could even go towards the actual amount you owe, and we don't throw you into debtor's prison! What a deal! What a country! And if they actually want to start paying off their fines, maybe we can expand the program to suck out their bone marrow or carve off hunks of flesh to use in skin transplants. We're providing an opportunity for the indigent to have skin in the game! Iron Twinkie fucked around with this message at 14:48 on Oct 20, 2015 |

The media decided she was the next hot thing rather than her gaining any support - they changed the rules to put her in the big kids debate, gave her a ton of focus there, ran a bunch of op eds about "look, the republicans have a woman too!" and then reality set in that she is a complete fuckup who shouldn't be trusted to care for a pet rock. People weren't interested in her so it wasn't selling papers or getting clicks, so the press moved on, and things are reverting back to where they were.
