Roro posted:http://www.pcgamer.com/subscription..._campaign=pcgfb Are they seriously trying to sell a $120/year service with Pewdiepie? Really? And I'd sure like to see them try to keep people from using Adblock or downloading videos, because obviously in the history of the internet blocking one entity from offering a specific service has never caused dozens of other similar entities appearing in its place, nope, that'd never happen.

EDIT: Also apparently (according to a comment on that article) the $120/y sub fee covers the Youtube stuff with no ads, offline content, music etc, and Google Play Music too, so it sound like if that's your jam it would be pretty good. But 0/10 would not buy for PewDiePie.

Sounds like in some horrible socialist counties they don't have the god given right to drive in whatever lane they want as fast or as slow as they want. Makes me proud to be in the only free country in the world!

Carbon dioxide posted:I think you got inner and outer switched around there. But yeah. That also varies. Some places use outer from the perspective of the median (so the "outer lane" is next to the shoulder), others use it from the perspective of the interchanges (you enter the highway onto the "inner lane", so the one furthest from the ramps are the "outer lanes").

Roro posted:http://www.pcgamer.com/subscription..._campaign=pcgfb It's really disappointing. A few years ago I stopped watching TV because the commercials were driving me nuts. Slowly commercials and ads in online services have been getting worse to the point where they're pretty much as bad as TV commercials, and now things like adblock start letting ads through and all these loving pay to remove ads services start cropping up. I like when things like Hulu show me three commercials in a loving row for their "pay to have no commercials" service. Look, I'd love to support you guys but annoying me non-stop doesn't make me want to part with more money. It makes me want to stop any good willed support I had in the first place. Apocadall posted:People are going to start pirating youtube videos haha. Probably. I might have the wrong headed approach to all this, but piracy rates of TV shows and poo poo might be less if they didn't try to force people to stream things constantly then bombard them with ads the whole while. A lot of people literally can't watch shows they're interested in because it caps their internet way too fast to stream something. Hell, I have fairly good internet and I can barely watch Netflix because half the time I settle in to watch an episode of anything it stops to buffer for twice as long as the actual show. It's me, the schadenfreude is me for caring this much about watching TV shows.

Gorilla Salad posted:$10 per month for something I can do for free with uBlock and YouTube Center? Well, it comes with All Access on Google Play Music, and it will prevent ads on Youtube on non-rooted/jailbroken phones/tablets too. I agree - I would not pay $10 just for non-ads, but I'll happily take it as a bonus to my music subscription that I'd be paying for anyway.

chitoryu12 posted:$120 a month to watch exclusive PewDiePie videos. What ever shall I do. I hope this makes Youtube realize what a pipe dream his channel has been in their budget. I still don't quite understand how he makes any real money. Yes, he gets monetized profits from his videos' ads paying him. Buuuut, his core audience (like seriously well over 90% of his regular viewers) are in the 6-14 age demographic (fun fact: My 8 year old son who watches crappy scarecam LPs says PDP is too kiddy and annoying for him), also known as "have no money of their own to spend on all the ludicrous car and computer ads on Youtube" ie they're not buying anything advertised, and the ads have to be not at all effective. This is a macrocosm of the whole major LP Youtube Superstar phenomena, where the ones that are super popular (because of their annoying personalities) are mostly visited by kids who don't buy anything advertised, most of which is not kid-aimed products anyways. I halfway hope or expect that youtube relying on these big viewer, low spender channels (that they seem completely myopic about) for their premium content coming up will result in the entire venture being a total embarrassment and failure. Gropiemon posted:If your autism won't allow you to drive in the "passing" lane just rename it to "fast" lane. A couple years ago, I got a ticket for driving in the "passing lane" while there wasn't anyone to pass at the moment. By the time the officer was explaining this to me there was plenty of cars to pass in the other lane and he had to say "Oh, if it were like THIS now five minutes ago, it'd've been okay..." I'm still kinda pissed about it.

I just hope they don't bump up the pricing for early-adopters like me, I like paying only 8$ for the Music service. Won't drop if they do, but it'd put a sour taste in my mouth.
