I'd like a libertarian to explain how the stateless underworld (literally) of Johannesburg's warren of gold mines meshes with their idea that a state is unneeded.

For those who aren't aware, criminal gangs, freelancers and corporate security battle it out hundreds of meters underground for control of the mines. The state really plays no part - very rarely a few state security forces show up to remind people that yes, they do exist, but they don't go down into the shafts where the battles rage.

Surely a rational actor wouldn't sneak into his neighbors capital investment, risk his life digging in closed and unventilated shafts for a few grams of soft metal, right? They'd be shunned by the community and ostracized.

This is some Shadowrun poo poo. :stare:

Not quite true! Ludwig von Mises notably disliked the Nazis for example (because he was part of the Austrofascist government that got overthrown in the Anschluss :ssh:).

What bombing is this?

Nijmegen, Arnhem, and others. Unsurprising that people who prefer the hollywood version of WWII don't know about it. It's revealing how Yankee chickenhawks cry over a naval base of all things but ignore actual war atrocities they committed. Only yankees are real people, boats are worth more than non-american civilians. God bless the stars and stripes, right?

I was honestly hoping you were going to mention more about what actually happened or go into the history of it, rather than smugly pontificate about how we're all nationalists for not having memorized every American atrocity.

Do what you want, but you're still dumb for it.

I compared a legitimate act of war that Americans cry over to a war crime Americans did that they ignore. This underscores the warped american worldview.

And yeah, all Americans are nationalists. That's why you put your flag all over the place and pretend you're the best.

I suppose I can pop now he's given names - after the USA entered the WW2 effort proper, they bombed several Dutch cities. A report in 2005 (for Nijmegen at least) came to the conclusion that the USA had assumed it was a German city (in this case Kleve), but that it was a simple mistake.

Which obviously rubs people the wrong way since no apology was forthcoming for what was a mistake.

But then hey, the Red Army watched the Warsaw Uprising get brutally crushed with amusement from their binoculars.

It's kind of nationalist to regard one's own military losses as a tragedy while more or less ignoring all foreign losses, including civilian ones. With which the second world was absolutely rampant.

You barely did anyway. The American experience of WWII was entrapping people who were actually fighting the nazis with extortionate loans on equipment you didn't even have the knowledge to design, (this is how America went from a economic failure to a superpower) then making a bunch of movies about how the three or four yankee soldiers who actually knew where europe was supposedly saved the world.
