Best non-mission pay day: noticed a treasure convoy on my map coming from an archaelogical find. They transferred their cargo in comms without a fight, and I hawked the 7 alien artifacts for 270k to a trader at a distress signal. Totally worth the small merchant guild ranking hit for pirating.

Sometimes the system average price seems to bug out a bit. I have a system claiming the average price of Tachyon Salts is 10k, but it isn't above 6k anywhere. This is a bummer if I buy at 6k.

No, they are randomly generated and just give you a random mission somewhere else in the system.. I've seen a dead drop, shows all bounties in the system, and shows a place for mining. Nothing interesting. I thought I found an interesting one as it was surrounded by Korian ships, but it just told me about a great place to mine. Umm, how do you join a guild? I'm following the main quest line, doing random missions in stations and responding to beacons. I just got to the second system, but all the missions there are VERY HIGH risk, despite me being in a Tannhauser with level 2 everything.

zedprime posted:Unless there's some late game trader item to buy that gets you up to date info, you've found the long and the short of it. The trading interface is probably the worst part, which is sad because I think it's deeper than its letting on. Or maybe that's the point of obfuscating it. As it is, its hard to recommend anything other than guild missions if you want to be a trader. Honestly it's less the "we only have info form your last vist" and more the fact the only way to look at it is watching two lists cycle back and forth during mouse over. Like, oh my god how the gently caress are you supposed to make any practical use of that without taking a pair of screenshots and looking at those instead? As for smugglers holds, I've seen them basically everywhere in the starter sector. I've not gotten any because I'm still very early, and have been spending my early game money on getting "+1 better than default" equipment, and the small cargo extended just in case. But with that 1:1 refunds detail, later on at least I can buy one to see if that shrinks my cargo hold down to 4 from 10, or if I will have 4 out of 10 of my default ship cargo space be shielded, what. More dumb idiot questions. When you use a scan and it tells you there is a bounty detected, how the hell do you tell which of the dozen red enemy markers is the Bounty? Mousing over on the map doesn't say, for example. I didn't see an option to set turrets to missile defense. Is that covered under Target Fighters? Have them set to 'shoot at everything' and hope for the best? Or do you have to take control of them manually and try to shoot down the missiles from capitol ships? UI questions aside, can't complain about this game. It's what I expected and the pricetag was reasonable for that. KB+Mouse controls are not an issue at all, and honestly with you bolted to a 2D plane I can't see why this game is listed as "Controller recommended", even if it is set up in a way that a Controller isn't a bad thing either unless you want to click through menus faster. This is a Nice Game. I burnt out on the mentioned earlier in the thread Void Expanse, because after a certain point the fact it felt like Paid For Newgrounds Game and mining astroids was still faster cash than any missions even when I was flying the biggest ships possible. On that note, Pro Tip for anyone who checks out Void Expanse. Take the start that gives you mining bonuses. Back to this game, I look forward to ramming deflectors. Oh yeah. I also like how there is a variety of booster types. I'm eyeing the slow burn to +250% speed ones for later. I'll gladly take a small variety of part types that are all something you might want over a large variety of parts where only a few are worth a drat. Do hope there are more than 6 ships and the rest are for sale in later systems though.

I hope they work on optimizing the escort mission's warp pair's pathing, it takes forever to get into pixel perfect formation then warp. They're well-paying contracts but that's one major snafu with taking them. You can go do your taxes then go out to eat after in the time it takes for your ship to get into position. Edit: And if by some miracle you make it that far, a ship warps in and all you get is proximity alerts when you try to warp. Or an asteroid is there, or a moon, or something. How do I turn in sourcing munitions for the trade guild? I had 12 in my hold and had a mission to get 12. Just bought them and nothing. Tried to go back to their station and nothing. Even abandoned the mission and got a similar one but for less payout had the 12 munitions in hold and then took a mission to source 9 and it still didn't complete the mission. Wtf.

Also onto ships. The Tennhaussen seems to be the last general purpose ship until dreadnaughts? Is the framerate uncapped in menus? I had to go afk while docked in a station and came back to my card's fans sounding like a leafblower. Undocked and it quickly returned to normal. Loving the game so far. My only complaints are UI-related. People have mentioned the commodity market already. Another problem is the map. If you have a mission to a station, the mission details overwrite the station details. Kind of annoying when you are chaining Merchant's Guild missions and trying to figure out what else will sell for a good price when making a delivery. Hope you can remember if it is an agrarian or mining economy.

I keep forgetting the hold CTRL button options are different than the push F options Thanks. The first capitol ship missiles I saw were in fact, swarm types. So I guess that had a hand in my outlook on the matter. Lots of fully drained deflector moments, but I didn't take any hull damage during that fight (was the closest ship around when I got "bounty detected" from pings). Not bad for the default deflector and slightly better than default shields, but then I AM in the starting zone and that ship was the only enemy. 21 ships is plenty even if some are faction specific, so that's nice to hear.

Klyith posted:I've seen people say 21 total ships. You can't get every ship without joining factions or manipulating your standings to for example be allowed to dock at pirate bases. If you look at your game extras (it's a separate download for Gog and I have no idea wrt Steam) there's a folder full of jpegs of each ship chart. Looks like about 21 I didn't count exactly. Pro-tips for starting out: 1) Don't try and grind up modules in your crappy starter gear. Trade-ins are for full price so there's no loss for moving up the equipment ladder step by step. This is especially true at the start because even the cheapest upgrades are a something like twice as powerful as the stuff you start with. 2) Same deal with ships themselves, get out of that corvette asap. Going from 2 turrets to 3 is more cost effective than going from a tier 1 turret module to a tier 2 turret module and it lets you start to play with a bit of variety. 3) All your weapons and equipment stay with you when you change ship, so getting something with more broadside guns is an immediate upgrade. And repeat advice 1) and 2) about not worrying about paying for marginal upgrades.

And it reliably goes up with more menus, I guess they're drawing the overlay with some high-effort shaders? (40% in the map screen, so that's what you should use to pause while taking a crap.)

The developers did a Reddit IAmA. Highlights: - Double Damage is literally two guys. They contracted a few jobs out, but the vast majority of the game was just them. - Official mod support (Steam Workshop) is not planned, but they're not opposed to community mods, and they'll help where they can. - Multiplayer expansion or DLC is unlikely. - Improvements to the commodities screens (especially in/out of stock) are planned. - Displaying the local map in-station is actually really difficult due to how they built the engine. - The general rule when designing the Mk. X equipment upgrades was that each higher level is 1.5x as powerful and 3x as expensive. - Game inspirations: * the Privateer/Freelancer series * Star Control 2 * Sid Meier's Pirates * Assassin's Creed Black Flag (for the naval combat)
