The Obama administration can't federally outlaw the death penalty but I really admire how much of a pain in the rear end they've made it

The lengths they're willing to go to execute people - especially ones lately whose guilt was extremely shaky - is a disturbing side effect of it all. Untested, unapproved chemicals that cause a prolonged death where the patient is responsive is something that they witnessed and said, "okay let's do that again" like an hour later.

Now they're literally smuggling in Schedule I drugs just to kill people because....that's what Jesus wanted? Anybody who could witness the account of the botched execution and still be on board with experimental drugs is hosed in the head

v v v v there is zero doubt that they were aware of their illegality. It's not like ordering a supplement and it has a bunch of ingredients and WHOOPS one is viagra, the whole reason they had to smuggle it in is because it's illegal to possess here. Even if they didn't know, they would've been informed the instant they tried to acquire it through their usual channels for other drugs v v v v

I am very disappointed that Ryan is taking over speakership, rather than this insanity continuing. I was going to suggest USPOL November: The Boehner Maintainer as a title, but now that won't be needed.

Maybe the HFC will force Ryan to vacate the chair somehow and we can do all this over again.

I'm still coming off a good glow with how well House Dems handled the committee hearing, and I've had my heart broken before with the lack of unified front of the Democratic party, but, like the Cubs, "this could be the year." Instead of the ideology of the right simmering underneath ignored voting records and with the defense budget now on the table, I think there could be a good, dangerous, public debate that could define the parties for the next few cycles. It's been held off on since at least 2000, and we have yet to come to grips with the Recession. GOP has been floundering since '08; these last-gasp radicals are the easiest to cut down on a national stage, and, thankfully, that's this election.
