Do people actually put on and take off their clothes in the future? I know they don't always wear the same thing, but I would think they just have the replicator change and remove them.

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be an alien that showed up in one of the Star Trek novels I read when I was in middle school. They're basically spacefaring scavengers who sneak in after battles to salvage technology and material.

EDIT: Nope! Looks like he's actually a dude from the Star Trek Animated Series, and a member of a species that only showed up in that show.

Ahh, now I remember him. There's supposed to be a female one in another novel series, that's probably her.

I was about to suggest him as the origin of an 8472 hybrid, or :riker:

Him and M'Ress, the cat lady, both appeared to replace the role of Chekov, who was not in Star Trek: TAS. This is because the show didn't have the budget to hire every cast member as an actor, and Walter Koenig was the one they decided to drop.

Where do people get the idea to just use verbs as onomatopoeia? Maybe if English isn't their first language, I guess.

Literature is not exhaustible, for the sufficient and simple reason that no single book is. A book is not an isolated being: it is a relationship, an axis of innumerable relationships.

It's the other way around, in a lot of cases. Japanese has a whole load of "onomatopoeia" for things that don't actually make noises, which get used in manga a lot. Poorly translated manga (i.e. most of it) tends to translate these sounds literally, so you end up with things like "stare" or "stunned" as a sound effect. People who are making comics through cargo-culting will imitate these things, so there's lots and lots of badly-made English-language comics out there that deliberately reproduce these translation artifacts.

The exact same reason Engrish shirts and gibberish Asian tattoos on white folk exist-- people will gladly approximate something from another culture regardless of its original context and idiots are especially good at picking the weirdest poo poo.

This isn't a bad thing either. This is how poo poo like Castlevania and Dark Souls comes into being.

Well there's a reason for this one, since the track being remixed here is one that plays when you're fighting a boss whose powers are nuclear-themed.

I have no idea what's up with the Reagan one.
