Or if you really have to buy one, the Recon ship is probably the better pick; command space skills are almost literally useless, so getting pilot/intel is probably better. It's not entirely cut and dry, since the intel slot is now Lt. instead of Lt.Com so you have to use OSS2 instead of OSS3, but that isn't too big a deal in practice. Honestly though if you haven't bought it yet I'd just save the money to put towards one of the upcoming promo ships, the JHAS is massively overrated these days even with the T6 upgrade.

I didn't buy one, I received a care package with a special requisition pack - jem'hadar attack ship (T6), special requisition pack - jem'hadar dreadnaught carrier, and special requisition pack - jem'hadar heavy escort from Brought to you by your friends@Starfleet_dental after getting into thenextgooneration chat channel. I have been playing this game for a total of 4 hours now and can't even open any of them yet. I was wondering what to do with them.

Also whoever sent the package, thanks! The game won't let me reply by mail yet.

You could fly them when you hit 40, or you could save them unopened so you can link them in chat to make pubbies jealous, or you could sell them (make sure to buy the EC limit increase first) and have enough to buy a different lockbox ship and plasmonic leech plus a few other essentials.

As Asimo said, none of those ships are really great currently, though you can certainly make any of them work if you ask for advice in chat. Simply knowing which equipment/BOFF skills to use will give you a huge leg up over the average pubbie.

Best thing to do is fly a Jem'hadar dreadnought with strike ship pets and pissbeams.

Dunno what you guys are talking about. The jem dread is perfectly serviceable and the JHSS>Recon, only the heavy escort is crap (as all escort carriers have always been) but highly overvalued so yes, feel free to sell that to bankroll whatever.

Yeah, seriously, some real bad advice about those Jem ships up in here. The Jem Dread is one of the best vanilla Carrier classes in the game currently, even at T-5U, and has access to the other side of the "best hangar pets" argument - ramming speed is a monster on those things.

The Recon ship is strictly inferior to the Strike Ship (You can just ignore the Command seats, you aren't obligated to use them you know) and remains one of the greatest DPS machines in the game. The Escort Carrier is merely serviceable, so yeah, sell that or use it to piss pubbies off. Or use it for the Admiralty system.

I love the Galor but it's the one that's currently overshadowed. Pissbeams are cool but expensive to acquire starting out and even more expensive to upgrade. The ship itself is now firmly in the 'mediocre' category with the advent of ships like the eclipse. I love my cardassian boat as much as the next guy, but if you want to actually fly A Good Ship and not just competently fly a mediocre one, I'd rethink your priorities.

Course, it doesn't help that most of the advice you got in here came from people who never play this game anymore but continue to bitch constantly in this thread for some unfathomable reason.

My Galor love will never subside and I've spent more resources than most people will ever see taking all my gear epic, yet even I gave up on piss beams after the first one. Just way too expensive for a sub-optimal weapon. If you guys are just advocating Galors for the beams now... please stop posting.

Thanks again for the advice guys, I guess I'll just open up the JHSS when I hit 40 and hold on to the dreadnaught for variety.

Mondian I'll accept your generous offer; whatever energy you suggest for DHC. (That's what the wiki suggest at least for the older bug ship).

Also thanks for who ever let me back into the chat channel.

Unless you're really min/maxing, energy type is meaningless, pick your favorite color.

As for those guides... DHCs are fun, but require you to pay a lot more attention and pilot skillfully to achieve the same thing you can do with beam arrays and mashing spacebar. You know what, I'm just gonna send you some arrays and use those until you've played the game enough to figure out your own preferences.

Those are probably old builds, cannons are inferior to beams, even on escorts. If you must go dual beam banks with an assortment of omnidirectionals in the back. Or just say gently caress it and broadside that bitch. At this point I would like to again recommend the Astika for general usage or at least the trait, it's amazing to have.

Yeah this. You really want the Astika trait and while the ship itself isn't a god tier cruiser it's still pretty good.

Priority for any new player should be to unlock the ec cap increase. Costs 500zen, any new player should be able to grind out enough dil and convert it to zen within a week or so. Otherwise you're limited to 10mil, when the JHSS can sell for about 500mil. Sell the Jem'Hadar ships and you'll have more than enough ec to buy whatever t6 ships you want.

Considering they've brought out t6 varieties of other old lockbox/lobi ships, they will likely bring out a t6 cardie keldon and/or a t6 tholian tarantula soon enough. Galor remains old news, pvp remains dead, etc. You'll want a plasmonic leech and an astika, selling one of those jem'hadar ships, like the escort carrier, would easily fund that.

I keep feeling this weird urge to get back into this game for some nonsensical reason. I haven't played since Season 7, I've got a Galor and a Corvette on my Tac Fed, and I did get the free 10 levels email. Do those ships still rock out? What's the best way to do so, as far as traits and special things to look out for?

Read a few posts above for Galor chat, but the Risian Corvette is still pretty baller in most situations. Fedside, most of the really good traits are locked behind Z Store T6 ships, and many of those T6 ships will be a better choice to fly at the moment. If you can get a free ride to 60 that will alleviate a ton of grind, but you'll still have to worry about spec points, dil grinding, etc if you want to max everything out.

If you don't want to max everything out, and just want to shoot lasers at spaceships and play through cryptic's generally horrible but kind of charming Iconian war story, then fly whatever the hell you want and press buttan. PvP is still dead, so there's not a lot of reason to actually go full sperg with the game anymore.

Pissbeams or not, the Galor is hella fast and has a good shield modifier and a decent boff layout.

Feels strange to say it but looking at the fleet T6 options, the Galaxy dreadnought looks like the best cruiser choice. Decent boff layout, a hangar deck, a bloop gun and can presumably use a cloaking device console.

Having not used either ship and going purely from stats, I suppose it boils down to whether you prefer the agility of the Eclipse or a hangar deck. Although I actually quite like the look of the Eclipse, its different and at least follows some kind of consistent aesthetic whereas the Galaxy-X is some fanboy dream with all sorts of OMG SO RAD poo poo bolted on.

The presidio's also a lot more mobile and a little more durable, and while command boff skills are crap the actual command ship special thing is a nice bonus. Probably better than the lance, though you don't get access to weapon system efficiency.

But yeah the T6 Gal-X/Yamato is now... pretty... good? Giving it a Lt.Com tac seat was really all it needed to actually be functional. The Romulan variant is massively underrated too, since that Lt.Com universal seat is incredibly useful.

The Eclipse is still pretty good for what it is, but ever since surgical strikes got nerfed all it really has going for it is OSS3. It's still really mobile and has a built-in cloak and it's perfectly fine and fun to fly though, yeah.
