Fojar38 posted:lol he shows up in his loving armor even in ghostly flashbacks Fojar38 posted:im a professional diver so i wear full scuba gear for my family photos Boba watching his father get murdered kind of hosed him up, and there's a couple instances where he tries to kill Jedi while using Mandalorian helmets as a symbol (rigging helmets to explode, etc). In the Boba Fett comic where he takes out Jodo Kast, Fett is working with Dengar to track Kast down. Boba is suiting up aboard Dengar's ship, and Dengar asks him why he never lets anyone see his face. He puts on his helmet, turns to Dengar, points to his own helmeted head, and says, "this *is* my face". Big Mean Jerk posted:boba fett is a stupid character that only dumb fanboys love, hth but no seriously, Traviss ruined that character. Even I'm willing to admit that, and I'm a huge Boba Fett fanboy. Also the image you posted was from Star Wars Tales, the sort of semi-canon anthology series. All in all it was a cool series and gave authors the freedom to just sort of gently caress around in the Star Wars galaxy, it was pretty great. Sometimes the stories were mega-goofy, sometimes they were funny, sometimes they tried to be serious (with varying results). One of the standout ones I remember was one where Vader fights Darth Maul. No no stop right there, I know what you're thinking ("that's loving retarded"). And the comic knew people would think that, so in the issues leading up to it they kept advertising it in ways that went more and more full retard, to show that they were in on the joke. The cover of the issue in question even had a goofy drawing of Vader and Maul in a boxing ring, with the silliest artwork as if to forewarn the reader, "Don't take this seriously, guys!" And then the actual story was goddamn awesome. The artwork loving owned, right out of the gate the story established that the Darth Maul that Vader was fighting was a Sith construct thrown together by some acolytes trying to prove themselves to Palpatine, and the story gave some actual pathos to Vader as Maul proceeded to kick his rear end. The fight itself was loving excellent, and then the way Vader won was completely perfect: Maul has Vader on his knees and has knocked his lightsaber away. He's berating Vader for not being a true Sith, for once being a Jedi, and for not having enough hate to do what needs to be done as a Sith. Maul is about to land the killing blow, and he says, "What could you POSSIBLY hate enough to destroy ME?" To which Vader replies, "Myself." And then he Force-pulls his lightsaber into his hand, puts the hilt to his own chest, and turns it on. Lightsaber blade goes right through his own chest and spears Maul in the heart, killing him. Palpatine promptly fries the Sith acolytes for being fuckups, he and Vader walk out to the Emperor's shuttle, with Vader wondering if this had all just been a test orchestrated by Palpatine. There was another fun story where a bunch of random cantina patrons are telling tall tales about meeting famous Star Wars characters, and they keep one-upping each other with their ridiculous, obviously wrong exploits. Some sort of fight breaks out with some named character right in front of them, and the very moment it concludes they're already telling each other how the fight went down and how much they contributed to it (again, all of it wrong). I need to go back and re-read the Tales issues. They had some goofy poo poo, but they had a lot of fun stories too.

I can see the psych damage with fett since he sees dads head get popped off and just has the helmet. It kid of mirrors Rorschach in Watchmen. I guess the point is that no one writes anything in Star Wars as if they were real people.

Like I'm genuinely curious if you read stuff I didn't read as a kid or if you just took a completely different message from it than I did. I'll be honest, a HUGE reason I think Boba Fett is dumb (or at least overrated) is incessant fanboyism. Similar to Final Fantasy VII or Nightmare Before Christmas. Sure I liked them, but their fans magnifies their flaws.

Basically if your thing is "mysterious, laconic mercenary badass," any amount of exposure is probably going to kill that eventually. this is actually one of the biggest sins of the prequels and EU in general. it's okay for some things we see on screen to be unexplained and just be cool background stuff. the story we fill in with our heads when we see a masked killer with a jetpack, or some weird monster with stilt legs, or hear references to "Clone Wars" or whatever is 99% of the time going to be a lot cooler and more interesting than trying to incessantly explain it all with backstory and sidestory and poo poo.

Can anyone post Traviss's meltdown when Clone Wars threw out all her poo poo? I don't like her and would get a hearty lol from it. She pulled that same "force her own opinions front-and-center" thing in the Halo novels she wrote, too. I mean, yeah, I'm reading Halo novels, I shouldn't expect too much, but the Nylund stuff was pretty good, but once Traviss took over the first two novels of her trilogy were 2/3 actually pretty good stuff, and 1/3 making Dr. Halsey (the head researcher in charge of the supersoldier project that created Master Chief et al) miserable and making GBS threads on Halsey and characters telling Halsey how awful she is and Halsey sobbing about what a bad person she is, et cetera and so forth. Because she experimented on kids to make the supersoldiers and Traviss really wants you to know that she doesn't like that, to the point that even the guy that trained them as child soldiers and tazed a bunch of six-year-olds on their first day in the program tells her how disgusted he is with her. I never bothered with the third because it was really creepy how much of a grudge the author had against a fictional character in a bunch of dumb sci-fi novels based on a video game.

Well to be fair, Lucas picked just about the stupidest possible explanation/scenario for the clone wars. It wasn't necessarily that he went with an idea different than most fans, it's that he went with an idea so impossibly lame and full of its own plot holes that people were floored by how bad it was.

Isn't this the same person who interject "The Handmaid's Tale" stuff into Gears Of War novels? Jesus Christ, she needs to take a break from writing licensed property novels and just write original fiction if she wants to delve into those concepts.

I think she also did Gears of War too....I have the book here but I don't think I read more then a chapter. I really wish the early Star Wars audio books weren't abridged...I mean lots of good unabridged stuff but there is some Jame Luceano Darth Vader book from 2005 and it just annoys me that it was abridged for some reason. Thank god audible and digital audio books pretty much end abridged audio books. The star wars ones tend to be really nicely done.

I didn't realize the extent of Traviss' influence. It's sad cuz it looks like themes I actually enjoy about sci-fi. Jurassic park is one of my favorite models because it's a classic morality tale about science going too far. Child soldiers are bad and the handmaid's tale is another one of my favorite books.

He's a goofball making his own Mandalorian armor to play dress up in, babbling on and on about what a noble, proud and great warrior culture they are and how they would be awesome again if not for the loving JEDI! Also, he talks a big game about how much better he is than Jedi and Sith, and yet Obi-Wan and Darth Maul both kick his rear end. It's hilarious.

It pretty much painted the armor wearing Mandolrians as the equivalent to KKK members still mad about the South losing the Civil War, while the ruling class was a bit hamstrung in how to deal with them since they didn't want to come off as the oppressive regime that Viz was painting them as. Then ObiWan ends up with a Space Templar boner for their queen but since they're both level headed adults with a healthy and respectful outlook tot heir responsibilities, they just pace themselves and keep from pulling an Anakin-Padme, as they aren't selfish retards. Everything about that story arc was the writers taking a huge poo poo on Lucas and Traviss' moronic bullshit, and you had better believe it owned
