Oh so you didn't like the sacrifices that were made? I actually much like prefer to have some pop-in than less than 60 fps.

But what I really liked about that video was the heavy use of variable resolution and having explosions in very low resolutions, these two probably wouldn't be perceptible during heavy action and seem like a great way to reduce framerate dips. But I would absolutely love if every game would have all of those techniques implemented as long as could deactivate them if I didn't needed them. I mean, think about it, considering how underpowered consoles are, and considering they managed to make a pretty AAA game work at 60fps using those methods, we would be able to play even the latest AAA games on mid-budged laptops at a decent framerate.

For me it seems like a single terrible design choice, not overall. Namely that they decided max resolution armor on everyone outweighs having the ground look like the ground. I agree smoothness is good, but consistant visuals are also important to smoothness. They should've lessened the overall resolution and increased the resolution of the floor to match. As it stands, turning looks janky regardless of 60fps. The heavy pop in is also detrimental imo, since you have twitchier gameplay. Idk about you, but I would immediately duck for cover and scope in if I saw that in the corner of my eye.

Agreed though that heavy variable resolution is rad, especially for fps since you can almost unload what is behind the player.

My point about 60 vs 30 visualy is that I'll never know if I'm not told. I've never played a game and been like "hmmm, this must be 30 fps". Yes some games are smoother, but that's not always fps.

30fps fells like moving through molasses, fps on a controller feels like you're operating heavy machinery, of course you're able to adapt to lovely things, it's a human trait but you just can't compare. I should probably do another one of those but using halo 5 footage instead of stalker this time (video with no sound): http://a.uguu.se/uaodwq.webm

I remember reading an article awhile back--I believe it was hosted on Vice or Motherboard--about a Second Life style online game that actually predated Second Life, I think from around the era of Ultima Online. It's of course really old and practically moribund, but the servers are still up and people still play it, and the article explained that it probably only still existed for legal reasons while the owner pursued some trademarks or something. The writer also described it as a surreal and kind of creepy experience because a handful of power users had a lot of experience messing around with the environments and influencing the player community. Does that ring a bell with anyone?

Every single 60 vs. 30 fps problem could be solved by just having a counter at the top left that says "FPS: 60" regardless of whether it's actually 60 or not. All of the retards who won't play a game if it isn't 60 FPS wouldn't know the difference.

the amrket hash alreayd decideed that outside of "competitive" (lol) games no one cares about 60 fps except for broken nerds. if u want to see 60 fps without comprormises look for SF5 or black ops 3 on the real console that exists this gen. adaptive frame rat e in a n fps to raise fps is prorbably the absolute worst way tot do it, because as soon as the res dips you lose any sor tof visibility at range

The biggest anime (or rather, Japanese media) stereotype is the dumb low class every(wo)man who turns out to have great potential versus smart high class talented rival.

Underdog stories are universally popular, ofcourse, but in Japan it's a bit more specific.

Now you got my attention. All Tales games ever were basically the previous games with a slightly improved battle system. Everything about the games outside the battles crawled insanely slowly and it was a huge pain to go back to after playing Xenoblade.

As for 60 vs 30fps, it's more noticeable and important in some games than others. I can't imagine playing most 2D platformers at a lower framerate, for example.

One Punch Man is pretty cool because it subverts this. It starts off with a dumb guy who decides that he doesn't ever want to be an underdog (even though he looks very much like one), so he super trains and gets good enough to solve all of his problems by punching. Too bad Platinum hasn't made a One Punch Man game yet.

I understand that everyone has their preferences, but the latter footage (destiny?) Is way more smooth and enjoyable. Vs the unnaturally snappy crap of Stalker. Might as well play quake for the millionth time. But neither of those have to do with the framerate.

Platinum would find a way to make it that but with deeper mechanics, as most of their games have that sort of quality to them anyway. A good One Punch Man game would be pretty much nothing but boss rushes.

people who unironically use the words 'subvert' or 'trope' in reference to a piece of media should be put in camps. true to form that's a terrible way of describing OPM because it makes it sound like it is exactly that, an everyman underdog story

You should be put in a camp, period. You can use words however you like as long as it makes sense in the context you loving rear end in a top hat idiot.

More to the point; it is not really an underdog story because he was an underdog before the story began. It starts you off where he's already more powerful than almost anything there is, and he's dealing with boring mundane stuff on top of killing godmonsters in 30 seconds.

A One-Punch Man game would work fine, just give the Mario 2 "it was all a dream" ending. Then you could have a new game+ mode where you have infinite health and can one shot every enemy.
