Being in a major market I have noticed that over the last couple of years the channels have been greatly expanding their subcarrier offerings and making them more appealing in general. I don't think it would be such a bad idea to give out some more OTA TV spectrum provided it was put to good use. This may not be part of the standard but could they give existing broadcasters more bandwidth to upgrade their subcarriers to HD?

You can't make a station's bandwidth bigger - TV sets wouldn't understand it. You'd simply have the station pay for an additional broadcast license and then they'd have say physical channel 12 and 32 for the area, doubling bandwidth.

I think current rules restrict a single owner to 4 independent broadcast licenses in a market area? Might be 3 instead. That still means as much as 6 to 8 high Def subchannels or as much as 20 standard definition.

Edit:10 to 15 years from now new TV sets may use a better codec that ups the amount of HD channels on a single broadcast channel to 3 or 4. That'll probably require conversion equipment for current day tvs, but it'd just connect to em over hdmi which will be easy.

Vietnam isn't a good comparison. It's easy to hide an army in a massive jungle that stretches nearly the entire border of your country, and being able to just wander over said border into supposedly neutral nations without consequence. That war was impossible to win from the beginning.

If ISIS is able to integrate with a civilian populace, that's a serious indictment of that populace. What's the solution at that point? If a people are so supportive of an army of murderous slaving rapists, the world has already lost.

ISIS/Al Qaeda have made it pretty clear you don't have to support them or like them to do what they want. They are up to par on the blackmail/hostage system for controlling people.

Because he's an abominably atrocious candidate. I don't mean in terms of ground game and strategy (though those are both abysmal as well) but in the sense that he's a soporific speaker who keeps his eyes closed half the time.

Also do you really think when it's all said and done, GOP primary voters are going to be able to pull the lever for a black guy?

ISIL's legitimacy comes from holding territory. They're not AQ - they see themselves as the new Caliphate. That by definition requires territorial control, and if they collapse and go underground they'll lose both their financial support from oil and K&R and also their legitimacy that's pulling in foreign fighters. They'll become just another lovely terrorist group. That's a pretty major win compared to the current status quo.

In "Important, but won't see any impact for another year" news:

Hillary's campaign is sharing data and money with 33 state Democratic parties to help expand downticket victories and to "avoid another 2014 situation."

quote:

Today in a press call for the Clinton campaign Robby Mook mentioned in passing that all of the voter data that the campaign is collecting for Clinton is being shared with state parties.

Mook explicitly stated that they are doing this to directly combat midterm voting dropoffs, to avoid a repeat of 2014.

The Clinton campaign now has deals in place with the Democratic parties in Florida, Nevada, Ohio, South Carolina, and Texas, among other states and Puerto Rico, to create "victory funds." Contributions to those funds will be divided between the respective state parties and Clinton's primary campaign war chest.

Clinton has stressed that she wants her campaign and candidacy to boost other Democrats all the way down the ticket. Helping channel donors' support for her into state parties is one way to leverage her fundraising power on behalf of other candidates—and to link the success of other Democrats to her own.

The Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee announced a fundraising agreement in late August, making it possible for donors to give to her campaign and to the party's general election fund with one check. Clinton would only benefit from the money if she becomes the Democratic nominee.

Since they couldn't get anything to stick to her in a setting where she can quickly retort, they'll just do it on FOX News and Republican debates, since they can say whatever bullshit they want with no fear of any meaningful repercussions.
