Recommend me some bands, preferably mostly/entirely instrumental, that exist at the intersection of indie rock and chamber music, like Clogs or Rachel's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH2c6G3tzyM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4R0eIi6pqSo

I'm planning to organize my music for the first time, and need a recommendation for a program to help me do it. My main requirement is an unusal requirement: I want to be able to rate songs based on multiple criteria. ie, I'd like to create categories like Beat, Lyrics, Overall, etc, and assign a rating to those. I then want to be able to search/view songs based on my own criteria, like "show me all hip hop songs, ordered descending by Beat rating". It has to work offline and be open-source, for the same reason: I don't want to invest tons of hours in something that could one day disappear at the whim of someone else. What can I use for this?

You can give Rekordbox a shot, I've never used it but I know a few people who like its modularity and ability to create custom tags. It's free. It would work but maybe not in the way that you like--instead of creating a Lyrics tab with the ability to sign it a 0-5 star rating(a software that will let you make and then rate your own tags does not exist afaik), you would create a 5 star lyrics tag, a 4 star lyrics tag, etc., and so on for whatever increments or tags that you want. Theoretically you could sort this in whatever order you like. let me know if you find anything that 100% matches your criteria because I would use it too.

Kringy posted:I've been listening to this thread's recommendations for hip-hop and I'm really likin Binary Star, Edan, Little Brother, Cannibal Ox. Anyone got anything else like these? This is all pretty much extremely my poo poo. I'd check out One Be Lo's early solo stuff (SONOGRAM in particular). If you like that you can try his more recent stuff, but I think the production especially seems to fall off. All of Insight's stuff is extremely good. Most is more on the jazzy end of the spectrum, if that's your thing. Targeting Zones and Blast Radius are probably my favorites. Soloplexus is interesting in that he's playing as 6 different MCs on it. If you like that, maybe also check into Jurassic 5. Also Non-Prophet's album Hope. If you dig that, you can look for more solo Sage Francis stuff, but he's a lot less boom bap on his non-mixtape albums (his mixtape series are all the still sick/sick of... things) Murs & 9th wonder did a few collab records, and they're all worth listening if you liked Little Brother. CunninLynguists are another good rec which was mentioned. Big KRIT's first album/mixtape is also extremely good (Krit Wuz Here) and he's kinda carried this sound forward imo. For sure check out Funcrusher Plus by Company Flow, and also El-P's solo Fantastic Damage. He's still making great music as a solo dude and half of Run the Jewels (with Killer Mike) so I'd check their stuff out too if you like that sound (although it's not nearly as harsh anymore imo). I'd also seriously recommend checking out other DefJux dudes in general. Mr. Lif's stuff would probably be up your alley for sure. Hangar 18 put out a couple of really fun albums, as did Rob Sonic (who's still going). Aesop Rock is hit or miss depending on who you ask but None Shall Pass is a great album. If you want more than that, feel free to ask in the rap thread or here again, cause I could mention a ton more depending on what you ended up liking best.
