From NoPPS chat, we see that Bort still has the same way with words that he always did.

quote:

Hey, admiralty is pretty neat :). I like having a use for the couple dozen miscellaneous ships I have hanging around my hanger, and a lot of ships I don't really fly (like the dyson science destroyer) get a new life.

Just one question: my Vandal Destroyer has 'Ignores +TAC from Events', but when I use it on a mission with 'Safe Trade Routes' (-10 TAC) it gets rid of that modifier as well. Is that working as intended?

I'm glad I read the last few pages today as it would seem my old DHC boat is in need of some changes after all. At least finding out now that I should change to beams saves me from finding out after sticking tons of effort into upgrading my cannons. The post about grabbing the almost perfect mk vii stuff is also a great tip.

While I'm posting, are there decent disruptor damage omni weapons? If not, stick with turrets or try wide arc things in the rear slots?

Edit: and is my hyper plasma torp still worth using or all beams now?

You can craft/buy a Disruptor Omni beam, and that's pretty much it.

Someone else feel free to correct me, but your best bet will be to grab seven beams in the flavour of your choosing and the Borg Kinetic Cutting Beam.

I'm running Plasma Disruptors right now but seriously eyeing off the new lockbox Herald Antiprotons. Has anyone played with them?

You can get a crafted omni-beam in any damage type you want. The problem is, you can only use one crafted omni beam per ship. There is a mission (Sphere of Influence) which will reward an "Ancient Omni-Directional Beam Array Mk XII [Acc] [Arc] [Dmg]" which can be run along-side a crafted omni and the kinetic cutting beam, letting a 4/3 or 5/3 ship run all omni beams in back. Similarly, the mission Butterfly will reward an "Omni-Directional Antichroniton Infused Tetryon Beam Array" which will let you do the same thing with tetryon instead of antiproton.

Basically true. If you're in a fast-turning ship with 5/3 or 4/3 weapons you can use DBBs and Omnis instead, but 7 beam arrays and the cutting beam are always useful.

I haven't tried the herald ones yet. There are two big problems with lockbox weapons - because you can't craft millions of them, perfect mods tend to be even more expensive than on crafted weapons. And because they're not crafted, you can't get [PEN] on them, which is by far the best mod available.

On the other hand, a lot of this is spergy max-DPS advice. Pubbies are really bad at this game, and outside of elite STFs the content is all balanced around horrible pubbie builds. You can run whatever you want and complete all the missions in the game. Follow some really basic ship-fitting advice and macro all your boff powers so that they're active as much as possible and you'll be fine for normal STFs and some advanced ones. So just run what makes you happy.

Bah, I'll stick with Plasma Disruptors then. They're suboptimal in every way according to DPS spergs but I've hit DPS 10k with them and they're only Mk XII.

E: Actually oooh, there could be enough unique rep beam weapons to shove all of them on a ship with +beam consoles and run a hybrid abomination.

Ok so, is this happening to anyone else ? tl;dr - what the game is displaying for DOFF and Admiralty job rewards is off by anywhere from 20% to 75% when compared to what the Reward channel shows.

I had 4 Admiralty jobs finished, 3 of the 4 had exceedingly wrong Fed Campaign XP displayed. The only one that was right was the "Divert Attention of Hostile Spaceborne Entity".

The others:
Escort High-Security Prisoner Transport - Displayed Campaign XP is 3,179, got 579
Transport Political Prisoner Into Custody - Displayed Campaign XP is 2,940, got 340
Investigate Stable Astronomical Phenomenon - Displayed Campaign XP is 3,072, got 472

Here's the DOFF job screenshot:

Note how Skill Points, Expertise and Trade XP are all wrong compared to what the text log shows.

E2A: All of the above is apparently a "Known Issue". :downswords: tl;dr All displayed results are a lie, go figure.

some bug hunter at Cryptic posted:

The doff issue has been reported and confirmed. It appears the Doff rarity bonus (+5%, +10%, +20% for uncommon, rare, very rare) is not applying to actual rewards but is applying to the display.
http://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1206316/doff-missions-no-longer-grant-bonuses-on-rarity

The Admiralty issue is a display issue with the daily bonus. The first admiralty mission you complete per day per campaign gets bonus XP, but the bonus is added to the display on all completed missions. After you acknowledge the first, the daily bonus is done but not subtracted from the other missions. You should be receiving the correct pre-bonus XP however. If you discover different behavior than this, please report back.

I'm considering messing around with a Tetryon build on a Fleet Arbiter, would Refracting Tetryons be the best choice when using FaW/APB/GravWell/SensorScan/IonicTurbulence/DestabilizingResonanceBeam? Figured that if they're all bunched up real nice, the refracting proc might be a good idea.

Of course you like ships, it's just what you'll need with the new Admiral system around the corner!

How about getting all of these ships?Until the end of this month (oct 31st) I will be holding a contest to find the most :psypop: pubby you can find. This can be either by their outfit, content of their bio or through their actions or chatter; something that makes the pubby you found the most unnerving and creepiest of Halloween monsters.

Entries can be in the form of screenshots or logs, and just post them in this thread so I can see them.

Let the one with the worst pubby win!

(if you're interested in some science ships you can check out my writing or screenshots contests)

EDIT: And make it something new, don't rehash old chat logs or screenshots we've all seen ages ago.

So we've seen pubbies fly off the handle on seeing someone's @handle, pubbies thinking they've broken our secrets, and pubbies with power to match their incompetence; but nothing really beats a complete meltdown of a pubby where every step is just leading to their own demise.

I've taken the following post as the winner of the A Goony Halloween contest.

Do you like the color?

If the answer is yes, you've found your beam of choice.
