In my opinion, the QS dining plan gets as close to actual cost of all the dining plans. It's approx. $40 per day for 2 QS meals, 1 snack, and the refillable mug. The plan covers an entree, a drink, and a dessert. If you order a $10 burger, a $2.50 drink, and a $4 cupcake for lunch, you're at roughly $17 plus tax. If you do that twice a day, you're already at $34 and that's not including the snack and whatever you put in your mug.

If you'd rather have the cash, then ask for it, but I don't think accepting the QS plan is all that bad. It's awfully convenient to just use the plan, though.

That picture is amazing! Kind of wish I would have picked up a ticket for it when I was there.
You could use your QS meal for three snacks - that gets you a ton of food if you use it that way.

Expedition Everest didn't go well today. My daughter was nervous about going backwards but she got on. She loved it. Especially going backwards... Until the drop at the end. It scared her and she started crying.

Now for a quick, funny story. She wanted to ride Kali River Rapids. Before she went on she found a "lucky leaf".

"This lucky leaf will keep me dry!"

Epcot was good times. Pretty busy though obviously.

Nope! That's just how it works. Now if you were to try to get the dessert on it's own without the entree you would be charged a snack credit.

I hope you kept the leaf to frame with a picture of your soaked daughter. That would be golden for years to come.

In news related to me, decided to go with the DDP, found a calculator online, http://distripplanner.com/ and it comes out close to even for me, and that's not counting the value added for blowing through all our snack credits the first few days at F&W. Going to have so much filet mignon from Canada.

Speaking of, I just learned about the Tipsy Duck from China, and I will be having so many of those. What else is there that I should seek out?

Tipsy duck is probably the best tasting and booziest drink in the park, in my opinion. La cava margs can be good but they are pricey.
The France slushes are overpriced and overrated. Canada drink cart usually has some good beers on tap.

Well you can fuck that sky high!

Got back today from our four days at Disney, we had an amazing time! We did Magic Kingdom on the first day and manage to hit all of the big rides, some even multiple times. We did the Seven Dwarves' ride three times in a row, with our last ride going on during the fireworks, which was so cool. We got off just in time for the finale, simply gorgeous. We hit Space Mountain twice, Haunted Mansion twice (once during the day and once at night of course), did the AstroOrbiter twice, I maxed out the Buzz Lightyear game, did Small World and Pirates for the sake of it, and walked our butts off, and did probably a 13-14 hour day that day. I was a little anoyed that they closed Splash Mountain during the Extra Magic Hours, but that just meant we rode Big Thunder Mountain three times in a row (for a total of four times that day!) instead. The next day was Epcot, which was OK overall, too much walking for little payoff IMO, and so crowded with the F&W Fest, but I got to meet my favorites, Chip and Dale! I was a normal, adult amount of excited until Chip walked over to escort me over to the photo op spot, when I turned into a big dumb grinning idiot. You know it's a person in a suit, but man, your brain is just like "OMG DISNEY CHARACTER" and you can't help it. We also did TestTrack and Soarin', those were pretty neat. The day wasn't a total bust because my boyfriend proposed to me during dinner in France that night, after the fireworks. :D

Animal Kingdom was the next day, and we were able to ride Everest three times in a row (first time was a FP and the next two the line wait was only 15 minutes, of course we got on again). We did Tusker House for lunch, so I got to meet Safari Mickey, Donald, Pluto and Daisy. We didn't realize the park closed so early, so we missed Kali Rapids, but we did do Dinosaur and the Safari ride. The Pagani trail was cool too, I loved the aviary there and at the other area. Hollywood was our last day and we hit pretty much every ride there except the Toy Story Midway thing (and we also got pics with Mike and Sully!). I had no idea Tower of Terror was so good; I knew it dropped, but I didn't know it did it multiple times, my boyfriend just laughed at me the entire time. We were also able to do the Rockin' Coaster (thank you to whoever convinced me to to FP), which was definitely surprising because I don't like to go upside down, but this was worth it. We just had an absolutely amazing time and are already planning to go back sometime in the next six months.

I made a visit to Disney Springs before the final night of HHN today and got "breakfast" at Jock's. It's actually got really awesome food and despite being "appetizers" the portions are big enough that two of them are a full meal. I got the Rolling Boulder sliders and they tasted exactly like I would want a burger prepared, and the total amount of meat and bread over the three "sliders" was the size of a large burger. The atmosphere and decoration really make me want to play Crimson Skies.

Twister is now gone. I went about 4:30 and the crowd had callback lines and cheered for virtually everything. I managed to record almost the entire show from the first row, right in front of the gas pumps. A lot of people showed up in their Bill Paxton costumes. Helen Hunt got booed.

Don't be scared
Got home yesterday from a 3 night stay with friends after not visiting the parks for a couple of months.

Few thoughts...

- Disney Springs, I have to be honest, is coming along great. I was skeptical of the changes at first, but now seeing it really coming together, I think I actually like it more.

- I was assuming crowds would be unbearable since it was Halloween, but surprisingly, the crowds were pretty light relative to what I've gotten accustomed to the past 3 years.

- Went to the Not So Scary Halloween Party on Halloween, and I feel like the whole event is a lot better than it was 2 years ago (last time I went). The Spell-tacular Hocus Pocus show was an improvement from the villains thing they used to do, and it was just a better overall experience for the extra money.

- Food and Wine owns. I'm going to try and make a day trip one weekend just to get in one last run through before it ends. Plus, I drank way, way too much on Thursday when I got there. But, on the other hand, I slept that night like I haven't slept in months, and I probably needed it.

- Back to Disney Springs - the Superhero Central store was awesome when it opened in May. Now just a few short months later, that store has practically lost all purpose. There has been very, very little in the way of new merchandise, and everything in the store can be found easily just about anywhere else in the area or at the park stores. Actually, Once Upon a Toy has better Marvel stuff to choose from than the store dedicated to that stuff.

- It's a good thing I'm a Star Wars fanatic, because if you aren't, then you're going to get aggravated with the Star Wars saturation at every last nook and cranny in the park.

So overall, the trip was great!

However, I have three major complaints about dining plan...

1. When you have a group of 4, there needs to be some way to monitor how many remaining credits you have left without having to go to the front desk of your resort, or guest relations.

2. The plans need to be able to be split up. It's stupid that it's done by room, so it's either EVERYONE on your reservation has the plan, or nobody does. Which goes back to being able to track the credits you have.

3. Disney needs to brainwash CMs to always ask about using credits. Late on Halloween evening, I was at Cosmic Rays and ordered a burger. When I got up to the counter and got my meal, there was a drink and desert waiting for me, so I thought it was odd, and that I must have miscounted how many QS credits I had left. Then yesterday we used up our final table service before we drove our friends to the airport, only to find out, we were missing one table service. Turned out that the person at Cosmic Rays burned my table service, somehow, on a godamn burger and fries. This is the 2nd time I've gotten cheated out of expensive credits on cheap stuff. Needless to say, I was aggravated as hell, but that's what I get for being exhausted at a park really late and letting my guard down, I guess. But several other times I had to argue with a CM to NOT use credits on things I wanted to pay normal for, like bottles of water.

Sidenote, I will say that until I got screwed over on the table service credit for a mediocre QS, we were doing GREAT on stretching that meal plan for every last penny.

A single act of carelessness leads to the eternal loss of beauty

I went to the Halloween party last night, and even though it was sold out, it really didn't feel packed. We got there around 5 and managed to eat, see the fireworks and do Pirates, the Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, Big Thunder Mountain, Small World, Mine Train, Space Mountain, Tomorrowland Speedway and Buzz Lightyear. We ended the night with bags packed with candy and my little one spent a good half hour dancing with Boo. That made the admission price worth it alone.

Honestly, this whole trip I am left to wonder what the people on the message boards (please don't judge me for reading them) are whining about when it comes to crowds/wait times. I was expecting to wait something like an hour to do the Mexico Ride from the way these people are talking.

I think the main issue is that you used to be able to go in the offseason and have a reasonable expectation of how crowded the parks would be. It seems like now it's really a crapshoot.

We went in September, when all the crowd calendars predicted a very low crowd level. And it was right -- sometimes, in some parks. One day Epcot would be packed, and the next, empty. The day we visited Magic Kingdom was an absolute madhouse (Mine Train standby was two hours; even the less-popular rides were hitting 60+ minute), and the next day we were seeing <30 minute wait times on everything but Mine Train and Peter Pan.

It didn't seem to be tied to the weather, the Extra Magic Hours days, or weekdays vs. weekends (we were there Monday through Friday). Mickey's Halloween Party did seem to drive people to other parks on those nights, but otherwise the crowds just seemed really random. My sample size is small, of course.

So I can see why people would be annoyed with wait times if they're used to consistent crowd levels.

1. When I went last year, I could ask any server using a credit how many I had left. I think a lot of them just told me without asking.
3. That's rough, and they definitely should ask before using credits. Again when I went last year I think they always asked and I never had a problem paying cash for snacks if I wanted to.

For some reason the Twister fandom (didn't even know that existed) really loves Bill Paxton and really doesn't like Helen Hunt taking away his screen time. A few dozen people came in blue button-down shirts like he wore in the queue video and did his silly hand-on-hip pose when he first comes onto the scene. There were even Rocky Horror-style callback lines like "Slap that wood!" right before Bill puts his hand on a piece of debris.

Disney Springs is coming along better than most Universal projects, meaning slower but they actually work when they open. Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar, the Amphicars, and the Boathouse restaurant tied to them are all open and fully functional. Most of the other structures are still plain concrete and metal, which is to be expected for a 2016 opening. Planet Hollywood doesn't seem to have been touched yet, but it's good that it's getting a renovation because it looks awful.

I don't get the love for bill. I've never see a more phoned in performance in my life. Helen at least looked like she tried.

That being said, we caught one of the last shows around 415. Good riddance.

They were running a test of a lot of new technology last night that I got to participate in. Lots of really cool things (and a whole lot of NDAs). It'll be interesting to see if any of it ever makes it into the parks.

Anytime we have a dining plan, we always specify when we go to purchase an order or snack that we are using a credit. In addition, your receipt always tells you how many credits were used and how many remain. I do agree that they need to find a way to display the info on the my Disney experience app. We did have a really funny exchangers year at Cinderella's royal table dinner where the table next to us of 3 children and their parents went to go pay for their meal with credits after eating only to discover they had none left. The reason being was the husband, not knowing any better, had been using the sit down credits for breakfast every morning. As a bystander, I found the whole exchange hilarious and I like to think this instance is the reason they now scan your band before you order at sit down to verify you still have credits.

Just a random driving question since I know we have Orlando locals here.

We're driving into Orlando (Kissimmee, actually, since we're staying offsite a night before our Poly check in) and will be coming down 75 South. Is taking the Florida's Turnpike worth the toll money? Part of me doesn't want to give Florida MORE of my money, but part of me wants to shave 20 min off my driving time.

Your best bet would probably be to take it to 27 then 27 to 192. 27 is a 4 lane highway with mostly 65-70 speed limits through country side and farm land and this route is actually shorter distance wise than taking the turnpike to 429 (another toll) or to I-4. Bonus, you'll drive right past me at the intersection of 192 and 27. If you're staying on the East side of Kissimmee then the turnpike will be faster but taking it all the way there would be $$$.

I don't know where you're staying in Kissimmee but here's a rough idea of what I mean.

Is it just me, or is the Jungle Cruise at Magic Kingdom a bit problematic? It has this early 20th century colonialist vibe. It's like lol you got attacked by headhunters, isn't the jungle savage?

It didn't help that our boat guide turned the whole thing into even more of a joke. Although he was kinda funny. I don't understand why it's such a popular ride, we got a someone short line during the beginning of the Halloween Party hours, otherwise would not have waited for it.

I say this as a typical white male, usually pretty un-PC. Animal Kingdom felt like way less of a caricature.

It's popular because it's a cheesy throwback to a different time. The Jungle Cruise was originally developed as a totally straight exploratory ride, but as the times advanced it became rapidly dated. It still has a loyal following thanks to the unintentional (and eventually intentional) humor of the old ride. This is why you went from the skipper shooting a gun at hippos to pointing the gun at them and singing "It's a Small World After All".

It's basically a throwback to a different time. I think the only time they've changed a very classic ride was Pirates when they changed the wenches to chase the men instead of vice versa. WD has changed a lot throughout the times. I've got an original copy of Uncle Remus on the bookshelf next to me, and there's even a cartoon where donald duck is a Nazi. A company with such a long history is bound to make some slight mistakes when looked at in hindsight. On the other hand I'd probably get murdered by an animal or tribe if I tried to head into the African wilderness with the attitude of a 1955 American.

My family is here right now, I've been semi-sidelined with a stomach thing, so I haven't spent a whole lot of time in the parks (pretty much just Epcot for some F&W yesterday and Le Celier today, and Studios last night), but HOLY poo poo THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE AT EPCOT TODAY. Like, as crowded as a summer day, easily. I'm sure the races are a part of it, but it seemed like there were a lot of locals in the park this afternoon. Probably waiting for the FSU/Clemson and LSU/Bama games, a buttload of FSU and Bama fans all around (and a few hawkeyes!).

I got my hands on a Kylo Ren magic band, and my family could not have cared any less when I tried to explain who it was. "Oh he's from the new movie ok" (Yes, I am a nerd). I'm looking forward to Trader Sam's when the crowds calm down, reservations at Sanaa and the new Morimoto restaurant at the Springs, and just general Disney layabouting. It's nice after a stressful couple of months to come to Disney and relax; it's like home, but without all the responsibilities of being home.
