NA's big retail release this week is Yokai Watch, the long-awaited localisation of Level-5's insanely successful Pokemon-like RPG franchise, available as a standalone or as part of a $99 2DS bundle. Was that one of those Ambassador games or something? I thought GBA games were only on Wii U VC. Playing Triforce Heroes with my kids made them want to finish Four Swords with me, which in turn made my 6 year old want to play and complete the original Zelda I got for him on VC so I'd buy him Link's Awakening. Wow, don't gently caress up in the Stella Glow demo. I overextended and it put me back an entire fight and weird tuning thing. Demo is pretty neat, though. Anyone with thoughts on the game? My Hyrule New 3DS showed today, too. Still a little annoyed that the logo is upside down, but it's still really sharp.

I'm gonna be buying a used 3ds at some point soon, either from amazon used or nintendo's certified pre-owned, or should I just get a New (new or used) 3ds (the "new" console, not a new old 3ds), does it make a big difference? I can wait for a sale too I guess, but if there isn't one soon where is the best place to pick it up? I'd really only want the "new" 3ds if its a huge improvement or lots of future games require it or its worth the money or whatever, thanks!

Get the "new". It uses facial recognition to stabilize the 3D effect according to the position of your eyes. It also has a built in nub that emulates a circle pad pro. There's only like 2 games that require the new cpu, but several games see improved performance, including Majoras Mask, Smash Bros, and Monster Hunter 4.

Get a  3DSSomebody with actual photoshop could probably do a better job... My 3DS is basically the only thing that got me through a severe dental abcess, waiting for the dentists to open, the fact the browser is actually useable now, due to the extra CPU, also made a difference when I couldn't be bothered to move to get my laptop and needed to look up the number. The pirk or having waited until now to jump on a 3ds is you get to have a NEW. Get a NEW. The old is basically a full life cycle prototype for the NEW. It is worth it.

Homebrew stuff has become a bit muddled when Nintendo fixed the browser/Youtube exploits, so most people are confused now on how to install the Homebrew Channel for region-free gaming, SNES emulation, or "speeding up" older 3DS games on the Nu3DS. Just watched this half hour vid of YoKai Watch, and I gotta say I'm liking the scale of the game a lot in terms of exploration. Battle seemed a bit more interesting. There does seem to be quite a bit more strategy in team rotation than I figured at first blush or from playing the demo. There's fusion in here, there's dungeons with areas to revisit once you level up your watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPnzOP5jh7o I think he said he was six chapters in.

I'm gonna be honest, Yokai Watch straight up doesn't look fun to me. Part of me wonders if that's solely because I only think Pokemon games are cool to me built off of nostalgia where Yokai just *feels* like a ripoff.

It doesn't feel like a Pokemon ripoff at all unless you're just seeing kid + yokais fighting and that's all. Nothing wrong with not liking it though, it's definitely not for everyone and taste is strange like that. Kinda like me not caring about TFH at all and thinking it looks incredibly dull.
