Yeah, don't play above normal on a first playthrough unless you're super crazy about the ins and outs of grind/mechanics. Just more generally, I think SC is similar to FC in that you don't ever really want to be playing on higher difficulties for quality, well-balanced experiences since they're simple stat multipliers in a system that wasn't built with stat multipliers in mind. NG+ can handle them early on, sure, but by end-game 3/4 of your options wouldn't viably exist anymore and the entire game degenerates into exploitation.

Speaking of, I'm still only on ch1 but I'm already enjoying the overall balance of SC over FC. Time stuff doesn't feel as broken and I'm actually using heals instead of earth wall spam. More of the crafts feel good and chain crafts are an excellent idea.

Okay, go into the fight with everybody's cp maxed out, Joshua and Agate and anyone else with an AT delay craft, first turn you wanna spam those, to buffer out the times when they can use earth shaker, use air attacks and s crafts when a bunch of them get low enough.

Speaking of steam achievements I think the ones for the books in SC are bugged somehow. Think they activate based on number of total copies? So if you buy like 15 of ch2 of the gambler book you could probably activate that one. Not going to test it fully, but I only have ch1 and ch2 but steam says I have 3 after buying a second copy of ch2.

The hidden lighthouse sidequest in ch1 also had a bug. Think there were only meant to be 2 decisions, but one of them had a linebreak and made it seem like there were 3. I'm playing in widescreen if that effects textbox size and thus might trigger it. Luckily doesn't affect the right answer, but didn't test what happened if you selected the '3rd' choice.

Also just got bounty hunter, and I am at right in the beginning of chapter 8, with one monster quest left on the board. (And perhaps more in other guilds)

It is indeed another Phantom Thief job. It should be available right after you start investigating Renne's parents and the threatening letters. Get some fire arts and S-Crafts ready before you search out the final clue.

Where do you get new fishing rods? I still haven't seen any besides the one in the casino. I've got a dozen baits I can't use.

You can get a bamboo rod from the fishing woman in I think the West block. On another note, Book 5 is in the coffee house when the story forces you to go there.

And I gave up on doing it, just going to do it when I replay. My last save before that is at the beginning of the chapter, and I already missed BP due to forgetting to overdo the gun testing quest. Thanks for the warning, though.

The entire end of chapter 8 is basically the most insane poo poo I've seen a jrpg attempt to do plotwise, and it pulls it off without a goddamn hitch.

One question though, do you gain any bp whatsoever in chapter 9? Because if not... 370/380 :negative:

Also bug report: I'm unable to read the data crystals in the capel, I hear sounds like i should get an icon to over over the choices but it doesn't work,

No. If you have the highest rank at that point, the scene changes slightly. There are no more BP after that.

Quick cutscene glitch report from FC.

After taking the photo to Leiston you get taken back to the guild. In that scene Agate and Tita start already spawned. You the get the door opening sound and the pan across to them. I presume that bit of the screen is cut off in the smaller res version. I have a save file from just before that scene if you need it.

I'm still only in Chapter 2, but the ones I've found so far:

#1: In the Prologue, while you're checking out the damage to the lodge after escaping the forest, head upstairs. It's in the room that was locked before.
#2: At any point in Chapter 1, you can buy it at the casino.
#3: On the flight from Ruan to Zeiss, talk to Olivier twice.
#4: After you meet with Lord Crainagh in the Erebonian Embassy in Chapter 2, head for the embassy library and talk to the librarian before you leave.
#5: While you're following Renne's riddles, one will direct you to "a bitter, spicy, delicious store." Head to the coffee shop in Grancel West and talk to the customer.

Bug report time! As near as I can determine for what happened, the second cutscene at Axis Tower triggered where the first was supposed to, and dumped me at the point where you're supposed to be at the end of the first, which can still be triggered by going back to the previous screen.

Of course, this resulted in me not getting told to go back to the Arseille, and ended up fighting Bleublanc first without realizing he'd be there and I probably should've brought Olivier...

I didn't even bother testing, proper debuffing made the damage manageable. I've been using impede effects against annoying arts users, not crafts until this point.
The impede quartz is fairly useless in my opinion. You want something interrupted, use a craft with impede, because random procs will fail.

In other gameplay thoughts, gently caress Death Throes enemies with a rusty spoon. Not the self-destruct ones, who cares, the buffing ones.

If you want an occasion to laugh at Death Throes, there is in fact a boss late in the game that summons minions that do Death Throes... while the boss itself is immune to the buffs.

... wonder if that should be a bug report.

Also gently caress this game's weird status effects, I do not want Fat Estelle.

In FC, the Impede 3 Quartz gave an 80% chance to impede, which was high enough that I preferred to attack so I could conserve my CP for other things.

Especially when I was trying to Impede every other turn.

For the boss fight at least Kloe and Olivier didn't give a gently caress, between Kampfer and Clock Down. I just blitzed the adds and then debuffed the boss. Clock Down is already a -50% debuff too so it does more than cancel the effect I'd think. Not sure if Kampfer completely cancelled the death throes buff in terms of numbers, but at the very least you're right in that the debuffed boss, even with throes buffs up, only did maybe 600 damage per hit.

What was his craft though? I just Olivier'd it every time.
