Everytime the Torie backbenchers start hooting you can see Watsons face light up since he knows all they're doing is shooting themselves in the foot. Cameron is clearly getting pissed off that Bercow wont let it interfere with the questions.

It's a draft bill at present. They started off with the typical "this will allow us to spy on you on the shitter because we're at risk from al jazeera" nonsense, then they threw out a lot of the most objectionable poo poo so that they could claim to be compromising. Now it seems they've thrown out some more, like removing the mathematical ignorance that made up the encryption section.

It's still pretty bad though.

(And on that note, you can add your voice to a more sensible proposal that even manages to add security in some areas while cutting out the theater.)

I guess it only tracks ships with an AIS transceiver. Ships over a certain size traveling in international waters have to have a particular class transceiver, but smaller vessels can opt for one too. A lot of small boats just opt for the receiver so they can stay out of the way of large ships.

He didn't inform the DVLA when he blacked out the first time, which is bad. But he did tell a doctor about it when he was given an employment physical, and that doctor cleared him to drive. Plus even by the strictest DVLA rules if you haven't had any blackouts for a year they will give you your licence back, and it was more than a year later when he had the second blackout. So him telling the DVLA would actually have made zero difference to him being in that bin lorry. I can understand why the relatives are angry, but it really wasn't as much his fault as it was made out to be.

Agreed, and sorry for not replying earlier Pistol Pete. I can understand this guy being frightened of losing his job, not being able to feed his family, pay the mortgage etc. and thinking "it'll never happen" and refusing to see the sensible choice in front of him. It was a bad call, but it's an understandable human call to make it the way he did.

We had a work lunch today along with some of the trustees and got to talking about politics/government/Dave and I mentioned (simply regurgitated from this thread) about his prior interest in drug reform and other issues and what a pity it is that people are so willing to abandon their principles for power. The elderly conservative (and probably Conservative to boot) gentleman I was chatting with said "oh well he never really believed it you know - it was all his guru just telling him what to say - it was environmentalism before that; he wanted to save the planet!" I mention that I didn't remember this and a lady the other side of me was surprised and said "Oh don't you remember him in the north pole cuddling a husky? You don't remember 'Hug a husky'!?". I'd never heard of this either but I couldn't help blurting out "'Hug a husky?' The hell is it with David Cameron touching animals?".
A deathly silence descends upon the party.

Anyway, I am now fully informed:

While it's obviously a big problem and the generation gap is being pushed to its absolute limit, the number of people affected is going to be vanishingly small, and all of them volunteered for the scheme. Nobodies house or business is going to be affected at all.

I'm on SkyBB (I know, I know, but they're the only ones offering fibre in my area and their unlimited actually is unlimited). Can get a minimum 5 MiB/s (40 Mb/s) and that was during a lovely service period. Typically hovers around 7 MiB/s with a peak of 10 MiB/s. It's hardly a surprise but it's a fair stretch to say that his arrest was a conspiracy to silence someone who made a cheeky gesture at the then leader of the opposition (without even knowing who it was).

The other hand down his trackies is what makes that photo, I can't believe I never noticed it before.
