It's just sad. The comments littered through the dragon blog post show someone who seems to be rather terrible with planning, who made a continuous series of poor decisions while not realising everything he did was sinking him faster. The proverbial tearing the bottom out the boat to patch the sides.

He'd make a good case study for an MBA course.

Just read the guy's latest couple of blog posts after seeing on several Facebook groups about his appeal that he literally can't afford food, and fans of his are suggesting people place orders with him to help him out. I'm not reconsidering my life or anything because of him but I am glad I'm keeping things very slow with building up my side business. I mean, drat, dude, he should have just declared bankruptcy or something.

From what I gather, I guess the 30K thread was gassed because it could pretty easily be folded into the 40K thread and there's already at least four Games Workshop-related threads strewn throughout the forums. Since the 40K thread was already getting to the point where they could close the thread and make a new one, they could make it a new combined 30K and 40K thread.

For what it's worth, I think having three One Punch Man threads is probably a bit much, even if it's to preserve the sensibilities of people living in a culture obsessed with protection from spoilers.

You're probably right, but it would be neat if a mod said the reason, instead of relying on guesses

That said, while I sympathize with the 40K thread regulars for having the 30K thread gassed out from under them, I think they're a little too salty about it. It probably should've just been closed rather than gassed, but the fact that the first couple of pages were basically dedicated to making GBS threads on one person in inter-thread drama didn't help.

No-one should be placing orders with him. His posts make it sound like he's about to be visited by the bailiffs and at that point, all his stock, all his tools and moulds and anything valuable will go to service his debts. They'd just be throwing good money at bad.

I don't know how many models you can spincast in a day, but yeah that does seem like a long time to produce stuff for one show. I've seen a video of a guy explaining metal model spincasting and it looks like you could make hundreds of models in a day, including packaging them. I'm not sure you could sell thousands and thousands of models in a single day, even at the UK's largest gaming show.

Salute is a single day show in London, next year it's only April, and from what this guy is saying it's his equivalent to Christmas sales. But I have been to other gaming shows on the UK and haven't seen him there (he actually lives not far from me), where he could be making sales.

Remember he had a staff member for much of that time helping him with the casting and packaging. It genuinely seems like his inability to commit to what the dragon looked like at the start came back to haunt him. Then once he'd worked out how to get them cast, instead of keeping that system going and taking more orders at a price point he could make a profit at, and using those orders to prop up the pre order fulfillment. Instead he kept changing methods, resulting in months (years) of downtime between batches. Always looking for the silver bullet that would fix everything in one go.

Considering the amounts that bloody dragon goes for on ebay, he must be kicking himself.

What is the difference between the games of 30k and 40k? The games. Not the setting, not the models, not the stats of the models. The games. I was led to believe that 30k was literally just new army lists for 40k and that they used the same base game rules.

I know "mon" means man, but I don't think "Och" means anything.

Units are more expensive up front so MSU is less of a thing, which also means the game works better at higher points amounts. Other than that its base 40k mechanically really.

That's not a game difference, unless you mean something like Epic.

I'm going to be very clear and say that for the purposes of this discussion, Hordes counts as a collection of new army lists for Warmachine. While Hordes has some unique mechanics, it is absolutely the same game system to the point of full compatibility, allying units from the other half of the system (I myself used to play Cygnar with Minions), and allowing players at a high level to generally just refer to factions of both sub-systems equally on a macro level without qualifiers (to the point where they have a single thread with no problems).

Well for one the boxed set that's coming out for it is a completely new game. As in tiles and all others little things.

I'm honestly kind of curious, what sort of game is the boxed set anyway? You tend to hear stuff like that people are just going to buy them to get models cheaper and use them in "real" 30K and that the boxed game is sort of a throwaway thing.

As far as the Forge World game, what I gleaned from the 30K thread OP is that there is no difference. You still require the 40K rulebook to play it, there are no factions other than Space Marines and friends (this is how it is balanced), and it costs more.

The new box set comes with some miniatures to use in the 30K game, and come packaged with some cards and hexes that will be thrown in the trash because people are buying two to three sets at a go. Even if they wanted to play the board game, they don't need the extra 2 two tile sets. Or maybe they will because it will be poo poo quality like Dread Fleet?

No one knows yet since it's not out and GW never tells anyone anything ahead of time. Looks like some sort of hex-grid probably based on a boarding action or underground war since both featured during the event it's named after. It's a fair bet it'll be garbage though.

Well that answers that.

The only reason I'm even asking is because I honestly didn't know a lot about 30K and that it's considered a different game line by GW. I figured this was just a rebranding/campaign setting thing and not, like, LotR compared to Warhammer. Bulbasaur explained in the 40K thread that the differences between the two are about equal to a change in editions, and now I'm reading up that the idea is for 30K to be a "test bed" for streamlined rules for later introduction into 40K.

Not going to lie, I think Contemptors look neat. And a drat sight better than the GK babycarrier and the standard boxy dread.

My best guess, without having looked at the 30k thread at all, is that GW discussion already consumes too many threads across SA, and TG especially, and we don't really need them proliferating. There's a warhammer thread, a 40k thread, this thread, a GW classic/specialist games thread, and 40k content is heavily represented in the modeling thread, oath thread, and monthly chat threads. That's just in TG.

It's like a total conversion to 7th edition that makes it more like 6.5. It's technically based on 7th but it's different enough that it plays very differently down to it's own standard mission types, detachment rules, and the way allies work. It's more than army lists, but less than a completely new thing.
