1/6 of the goal in like 3 days isn't really 'trouble'. Hopefully the rate increases as it gets some signal boosting.

Shipping to my filthy European country would be an extra $30 for the paperback even if I was to back it, and I doubt it's going to get a physical release anywhere near me. However even though I don't like reading ebooks I might back at that tier just for all of the reddit drama this has caused.

People who have no idea what Eve is but know the author might read it and like it, but military fiction is not exactly a genre known for having a lot of readers that are video game players. The numbers of goldi locks readers who don't know what eve is, but are also interested in MMOs, and are the type of players who will stay past the free trial is pretty loving low.

In my experience, readers of military fiction, especially military SF, are well known for being video game players. It's just quite often the case no-one else knows the games they're playing. There are even entire publishers specialised on publishing games where you have to calculate how many hexfelders you can push your T-42 Soviet tanks before they run out of sandwiches and moxitude gets to critical levels.

I think a lot of people on reddit don't play EVE; they play reddit. What sucks about them going after Jeff Edwards is that if this kickstarter fails then it'll be really hard to get another decent author to look at doing fiction of EVE stories. No publishing houses will take the idea because of all the reasons people listed and even Jeff wanted a pretty substantial hedge before taking on the project. On the other hand watching them all freak out like for sure the book is going to come out (and be goonie propaganda) has been hilarious. Particularly the current threads of "we should attack goons!" which always turn into "YOU! should attack goons" and then" waaah goons should disband so we can win." Which, what the christ.

A lot of writers, especially sci-fi, mystery, and erotic writers, turn novels over faster than poo poo through a goose. I know an erotic novelist who has a couple of best sellers who bangs out a novel in less than a week. By 2 to 3 months, I mean time spent total. Not like, he sits down on January 1st and is done on March 1st. He'll do some interviews, read some stuff, then write other books or things for a while. Stuff he doesn't have to publish right away. Then come back to the fountain book.

I think he might also not have a good idea how long it actually takes him to write when he's not trying to do it around his day job. He's not a full-time writer, but then none of the writers that I know are. Wait, I know one. She's a hipster who lives on starvation wages in Brooklyn, so perhaps not representative either. Otherwise all the writers I know are academics and writing takes forever. Well, data collection, parsing the data, and then writing takes forever. Particularly when R insists on being a bitch. VV Oh gently caress, he did run a ton of cap fleets, didn't he? I think, in all fairness, that Elo taught him how to fc caps though. Not that it is particularly difficult, from what I remember, otherwise the silly thing wouldn't have been able to do it. Citizen Rat fucked around with this message at 21:51 on Nov 6, 2015 |

Good god that QA thread is filled with disinformation. Dertydan is going on about how Elo FC'd all of our dread fleets and gave us the Harpy Doctrine. Harpy Doctrine was one of those oddball doctrines that was cooked up by EG pre war to go faf about with and eventually made it to mainline (If I recall correctly) and most of our cap fleets were run by Mittens himself.

I seem to recall Nora Robters occupied what felt like half the romance section of the libary and had something like 200 books published. This was quite a few years ago, I'm sure she has more now. The lady must have been doing books in like under 2 months. I kind of doubt it was masterpiece literature though. I also doubt that the Eve novel would be masterpiece literature. If they have the right author it might at least be a fun read though.
