There is no scholarship

Such an invite would be impossible to offer

The person supposedly offering the invite wasn't in the same state as Carson at the time

also carson didnt have lunch with that guy:

quote:

In May of his senior year, he was chosen to march in the city’s Memorial Day parade.

“I felt so proud, my chest bursting with ribbons and braids of every kind. To make it more wonderful, we had important visitors that day. Two soldiers who had won the Congressional Medal of Honor in Viet Nam were present,” he wrote. “More exciting to me, General William Westmoreland (very prominent in the Viet Nam war) attended with an impressive entourage. Afterward, Sgt. Hunt” — his high school ROTC director — “introduced me to General Westmoreland, and I had dinner with him and the Congressional Medal winners. Later I was offered a full scholarship to West Point.”

But, according to records of Westmoreland’s schedule that were provided by the U.S. Army, the general did not visit Detroit around Memorial Day in 1969 or have dinner with Carson. In fact, the general’s records suggest he was in Washington that day and played tennis at 6:45 p.m.

I think this will hurt him. Carson is in the 20%-30% range but has lots of soft support. Between this and the Pyramid thing, and the hammer and stabbing things... It's just too much.

Also he was terrible at the debate. Carson isn't toast, but this isn't good.

West Point isn't like other colleges because it's a military academy. Technically, there are no scholarships there because there is no tuition cost. Carson claimed that a general met with him and suggested that if Carson were to apply, he would likely get in (he would need a sponsor, but the general implied that he could get one due to his grades). Carson claimed he declined the "offer." Honestly this mostly seems like an argument of semantics ("scholarship" vs. "recommendation to apply and hint of sponsorship") combined with Carson probably twisting the truth a little to make himself look better.

I don't think this is going to hurt Carson at all; his shtick so far has been "the media are liars" and there's enough truth to his account that his supporters won't care at all. If anything it will just feed into his narrative and people might ignore the pyramid/knife stabbing stories altogether.

its too convoluted to be a big issue. the thing is the media is really starting to smell the blood in the water with carson probably embellishing a lot of stuff he said plus just refusing to walk back on some his stupider comments and this new story just adds to the increasingly attractive narrative of carson being a liar

it seems a lil unfair but then again everything that man says is horrifying so gently caress him

I doubt the West Point thing will really hurt Carson but its kind of drawing into view the fact that Carson's entire biography and past is filled with embellishments and questionable decisions and ideas. And Carson's a huge rear end in a top hat when he gets questioned about it and I think that can probably hurt him in the end run. That CNN interview is painful and Carson comes off like a gaping rear end in a top hat. Now his supporters and the anti media people will all eat it up but he can't spend months and months dodging any questions about himself while being as condescending as humanly possible to every reporter or moderator who poses those questions. Eventually that will have to catch up to him, right? Even if it just becomes Carson's excuse to withdraw from the race because everyone is so mean to him.
