Do not trust in hope- it will betray you! Only faith and hatred sustain.

If you're in the guild you can use their ship or you can buy an apartment on the homeworlds for 5k credits. Either way you just transport to your stronghold and then exit area to either fleet or ship.

Get Rocket Boost, get Priority Transport: Personal Starship when it becomes available. Get all the upgrades to your Quick Travel, for no cooldown to it. Possibly even upgrade your Fleet Pass as well.

If you plan on playing ANY other spec, then I suggest purchasing Field Respecialization. I'm also pretty partial to having a mailbox and GTN node on my starship as well.

I'm not sure Treek and HK-51 are worth it anymore.

I see Treek being a sound investment for one reason only at this point - it's a companion you can buy then unlock for your entire account that I'm pretty sure will never go away. With what they've been saying about KOTFE and "no one is safe", I'd be super pissed if a companion I built to 50 affection Pierce was killed in a future chapter. I am about 99.99% positive they'd never take Treek away because people paid real money for her. She's the companion I'm boosting to 50 influence on most of my crafters just to be on the safe side.

You get a bonus to your conquest points depending on how many strongholds you have and how decorated they are. All four strongholds 100% decorated is a 100% bonus to your conquest objectives. If you go after conquest (The reward for hitting personal conquest sells on the GTN right now for 1 millionish), it's good to have at least one and throw as much crap and clutter in it to get to 25% bonus.

Example - typically, doing a group finder operation will reward you 1,000 points for doing it in group finder and 1,000 points for finishing a weekly operation. Have 4 strongholds at 100%, that's 4,000 points instead of 2,000.

Do you have to actually place decorations in your stronghold to get the bonus, or is just unlocking the decos enough?

Assassins / shadows make it incredibly easy to solo heroic star fortresses. Just be the DoT-spec and just kite everything. Not even fully geared, and my highest companion affection level is 10, yet I soloed it all with no problem.

You have to place them. But it doesn't have to look good - change a large wall hook to 16 small squares and throw 16 trophies up there, 100% is 100%.

For F2P I bothered because I can't use cargo holds, but I can use stronghold storage. Which seems like a strange oversight if they're trying to milk money out of people, but whatever.

It's a spot you can park all your characters, have all the banks and a GTN terminal and also do character conversations.

Also it has free fast travel.

I don't know why for 5k credits (aka nothing) you would say "gently caress this free awesome poo poo".

On the spot access to a GTN terminal without having to go back to fleet/the main hub is worth it alone.

That is true and I did buy one. But I can't help but feel that I'd rather just have all that stuff on my ship. I don't mind going to the fleet, and I have personal starship transport on a 4 min cooldown so the stronghold seems redundant. I was also put off by how you can't just put poo poo wherever you want, you have all these restrictions on what can be placed where.

I also have absolutely no idea what the planetary conquest poo poo is about, I have completely ignored that aspect of the game

Do you like scary movies?

After some thought and hearing changes were made, I decided to come back to this game since leaving somewhere around the hype about the Hutt Cartel expansion. I do feel a bit overwhelmed with mailboxes full of gear and not sure at all what the hell's going on with my cargo banks, but since I'm still catch up reading the thread, I'll figure it out eventually. However, I am having one issue that maybe someone here has an idea on. I tried to add a mobile authenticator to my account, but I keep getting a message that it can't find the serial number. I did make sure my tablet's time is synched with my computers, and oddly enough the authenticator number it gives me to type's only six digits whereas when I look at my fiance's authenticator code, it gives him eight digits. Looking around, it might be something with the Samsung tablet I've got since it looks like others with the same one are having issues. Anyone know of a work around or some fix I can try?

For you people who bought the Amazon bundle outside the US, did you get charged tax on it?

I was trying to figure out how much it'll be if I want to buy that bundle, but it's wanting to apply tax to the purchase no matter which "no tax" state I put in for the shipping address, and if it's supposed to be charging for Canadian sales tax of some kind because of my card, it's not even the right percentage. Do you use gift cards to get around that or what? This wasn't an issue when I last did this kind of thing, but that was a couple of years ago.

edit: Is it supposed to be the billing address or shipping address that you change? I'd think there would be some kind of check in place for the billing address, at least, but maybe not.

Re: leveling speed in the expansion.

Honestly, they've made leveling so trivial that I almost wonder why levels are even needed at this point. Just start everyone at max level. The story quests are already scaled to your level, so the only real difference from a brand new character and some alt is the amount of presence and influence affecting the companions (and they are so overpowered it doesnt matter).

I don't necessarily mind the leveling pace now. With 16 alts I didn't have the desire to grind all of them from 60-65. Now I just run heroics to farm alliance crates for my 1 main character and level them that way. Hopefully soloing the heroic 2s isnt too bad with a gunslinger or sniper.

How about the mass suicide that was zoning into plane of fear before any of the expansions. Zone in, try not to die from massive lag and roamers before you even fully loaded into the screen, run for the corner of the zone and die again there. hopefully dragging your geared corpse with you. We even had nights where people died so many times trying to get their gear back from the zone area that they dropped below level 47 and couldnt get back in without the assistance of a gm.

I want to say it took something like 30 days of /played time to get to 50 originally, but I could be wrong on that. It was definitely significantly longer than any current mmo.

I spent two weeks plinking fire beetles, skeletons, and gnolls to get my Half Elf to lvl 10 before falling through a hole and dying (in Blackburrow I think) in a spot that I had absolutely zero chance of recovering my corpse by myself.
