Also, remember GINGRICH was leader for 3 FULL MONTHS at one point. It's looking like the same cycles this time around, they are not nominating the best candidate, just the least worst of their own.

It was centered on the football team, as usual. They even had point values assigned to photos and bragged about their collections, stored in phone apps that hide photos. Someone found out about it via an anonymous tip. Some people were just sending girls unsolicited dick pics and asking for pics of themselves in response. It's so big that they don't know what to do about it. Right now juvenile detention center lobbyists are probably calling local congressmen to push them to charge all these kids. Sending a picture of yourself naked? You're now a felon and you get to start off the rest of your ruined life being used as slave labor for a decade or so. smg77 posted:This is a real picture hanging in Ben Carson's house: A painting of Ben Carson with a black Jesus? I'm not a Missouri guy, I just saw the news. Personally I'm hoping this spreads to other SEC schools which aren't much better. I'm guessing it will be resolved before their next game though. Also, awesome on their coaches for supporting them.

Which is to say I'm oh so curious how racist fuckers are going to try to have their cake and eat it too on this one.

I'm pretty sure the SCA has rules against players striking and they agree not to in order to participate so they probably can be disciplined by the SEC.

No, probably the Chancellor will resign within days. The coaches are on the players side and if you go to any school in the SEC coaches have more power than chancellors.

Absurd Alhazred posted:Is there any level at which Mizzou isn't lovely? Well, it depends on how you define a University. If you define it by the administration, then no not really. If you define it by the faculty, staff, and students, then they are definite positive things to talk about! A lot of people could have crumbled under the massive poo poo storm that has defined this semester. Instead its possible that students, professors, and staff might actually force a lot of positive change. I mean, obviously I would rather there be no need to protest, but the actions of Jonathan Butler, the LBC, the group of Grad students leading the fight to unionize, and a lot of the faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences have been amazing. So you know. It's all in how you look at it I guess.

Absurd Alhazred posted:Is there any level at which Mizzou isn't lovely? First thing I hear about them this academic year is them giving their grad students 72 hours` notice on cancelling their healthcare coverage, and it's been getting worse ever since. It wasn't so much coverage as it was a 25% subsidy for the student PPO that's offered to everyone who goes here. To give you an example of how terrible the coverage is for grad students even with the subsidy, a PhD student with a dependent and a spouse would be paying somewhere close to 20,000 a year for a PPO with $0 deductible and 6600 out of pocket max. It was one of the reasons why I turned down a fully funded phd program there- the department was evasive and cagey as gently caress about how the health subsidy worked in practice. Also keep in mind that the other satellite campuses (UMKC and UMSL) still haven't had that subsidy restored yet. The shitheads were also going to cut tuition waivers entirely from several graduate and professional programs and instead charge full tuition but "pay" GAs more. Unlike it's more sophisticated (but no less evil) cousin Washington University in St. Louis, the people who run the UM system are too loving stupid to comprehend how a R1 university should be run and how to even say the right things when stuff like racial tension blows up on campus. When Ferguson riots happened last year Washu's chancellor immediately made a public statement supporting black lives matter and accusing the St. Louis area of being massively racist. Up until this year all levels of UM administration have denied that racism exists in Missouri, even going so far as to call the incidents that occurred when I was around (09-12) like the cotton ball and the first swastika graffiti incident "bias crimes." Watching these shitbirds flail and attempt to do damage control is like watching the GOP attempting to talk to minorities. The cousinfuckers in charge have spent so much time in a white bubble that they have no idea how to talk to people of color. Even from a purely business, managerial perspective they really need to get some kind of PR firm to coach them on how to address this issue. Not doing so just tarnishes the brand (it's been tarnished for decades for black and minority students) for the lucrative out of state markets that keep the place afloat.

So right now Im reading The Price of Inequality by Joseph Stiglitz and it's reminding me of something that happened a little over a year ago. My dad got taken for a bit of a ride by an insurance salesman on his retirement and made some bad decisions. At the time I was fighting mad. Now that Im reminded about it Im so upset that I had to put the book down and got me thinking. As Im about to get out of the Navy and soon to be living with my parents before I go back to school in August, that it might be a good time to swing by the salesmans office and get his advice on what I might do with my own savings. My intent would be to then write an editorial in the local city and county paper about financial middlemen with their own best interests in mind, unknowingly at your expense. I would want it to be as scholarly as possible and any questions I asked him I'd want to be as honest as could be. Tell me if this is a bad idea.
