Our parents bought houses when they were 23. We buy houses when we turn 30. It's how it goes.

Well, when the last bubble popped I got to watch my home town poo poo itself as tons of people lost their jobs, their homes values went far below what they owed and no one was buying.
They could not move to other areas where there were jobs for them because they had a house shaped anchor.
For myself, I have moved 4 times within the last 2 years for new jobs, I prefer mobility and I will pay the rental premiums for that mobility.

Millenials are babies that like dorm life - let's keep them there forever!

http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2015/11/coliving/414531/

quote:

Coworking is probably a familiar concept at this point, but Evans wants to take his idea a step further. On Friday, on the top two floors of the building, he’s starting construction on a space he envisions as a dorm for Millennials, though he cringes at the word “dorm.” Commonspace, as he’s calling it, will feature 21 microunits, which each pack a tiny kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living space into 300-square-feet. The microunits surround shared common areas including a chef’s kitchen, a game room, and a TV room. Worried about the complicated social dynamics of so many Millennials in one living unit? Fear not, Evans and partner John Talarico are hiring a “social engineer” who will facilitate group events and maintain harmony among roommates.

Forget communes or co-ops. Millennials, Evans says, want the chance to be alone in their own bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchens, but they also want to be social and never lonely (hence #FOMO).

Oddly, when everyone at the same time realized how great it is to be within walking distance of authentic restaurants and a trendy gay disco, the polarity reversed and it became poo poo? quote:

My partner and I have been together about eleven months. She has major depressive disorder, sees a therapist regularly and has been on a number of different anti-depressants. She suffers vaginismus, frequent UTIs, and frequent spotting and bleeding despite being on a hormonal birth control implant. She identifies as demisexual, and has told me that she is extremely uncomfortable having sex with someone for whom she cares, and that it was easier to do so when our relationship was less serious. It is easiest for her to be intimate only when she is disconcertingly inebriated, which makes me uncomfortable fr numerous reasons, especially her ability to consent; but that she has stopped binge drinking.

She has recently changed anti-depressants, having previously been on Cymbalta. She described herself as "zombie mode" while she was on it, and has been more expressive since. But, she still feels incapable of having sex. She told me she has made an appointment with her therapist to "re-wire her anxious associations." We haven't had sex since September, and the last time it was enjoyable was July. But I also get the impression that she is concerned. She's offered oral and told me that she is okay with "just lying under me". But at the risk of sounding cheesy, if she's not into it, I'm really not having a good time.

Recently, she tried to send me a single dirty picture via text. I never received it, but she informed me that it was only waist up, and no face. Instead, it was sent to he mother, sister, and niece. Her family are conservative oligarchs, but not "burn-the-whore" denim skirts and perm types, but she tells me that the fallout gave her panic attacks all day. It's left me with the impression that she finds sex physically un-fulfilling and emotionally back breaking.

I am happy with many of the other aspects of our relationship. She's intellectually engaging and emotionally supportive. She's a very good friend, she plays at my D&D table and it's satisfying to be able to share that with her. When I've brought my concerns up to her she has been receptive and she seems to want to develop the relationship. But I'm worried that our different sexual needs are intractable. I feel like a horny teenage, propositioning her or always being the one to initiate (when we had sex at all.) I want to respect her identity. And I don't have the right to break things off if she's more mature than needing sexual gratification, but don't know how to be an intimate partner divorced from intimacy.
