Rand came off as a clear loser of that debate. He just seemed childish and petulant. The exchange between him and Rubio on the military was hilarious; Rubio destroyed him.

Rubes: blah blah big military good, protect America. I'm no isolationist like you (audience laughs)
Rand: Yeah well who's gonna protect us from bankruptcy court? :smug:

Rand literally said Rubio was "liberal on the military" for wanting to increase military spending. He's such an ardent ideologue that he doesn't know how stupid he sounds when he says poo poo like that. He basically just repeated "I'm the only fiscally conservative person up here" and expected everyone else to drop out immediately. What a hack.

This was my first GOP debate btw. Rubio seemed the clear winner; Jeb didn't do terribly. Carson thinks China is in Syria and Fiorina stressed her record as a job creator. Funny stuff.

That was intentional reframing of a real issue (the military budget) for the republican primary base. He does this a bunch, as does Trump. Rand's real whiny about it, sure, but it's not a bad idea.

Thoughts:
- Kasich, Jeb, Fiorina and Rand continue to shield Rubio from Trump. Has Rubio had even one successful exchange with Trump so far? The gracious acceptance of the water bottles, I suppose, but this wasn't face to face. I really wonder how it'll go... though Trump seems to be tiring a bit. But I think this point, if it ever occurs, may be crucial for Rubio.
- Carson will probably drop in the polls a bit, but it's not like the Evangelicals have someone else - they had all the chances to switch to Huckabee. The more interesting question continues to be, I think, how they will in the end split between Trump, Cruz and Rubio. Rubio is the nice boy, but Cruz was the one talking about a granny, wasn't he?
- Rand is Rand, will continue Randin' at 3-5% as long as he's allowed to.
- Fiorina dropping out of the main debate would be a loss. I utterly love how she continues to get on Trump's nerves. Just let her team up with Megyn Kelly for double the fun.
- Finally, I eagerly await the moment Cruz decides that he does not need Trump anymore. If there ever is a debate between Trump, Carson, Cruz and Rubio, then I think it would be it. *If*.

As entertaining a dynamic as she can provide at times, Fiorina needs to go because I simply cannot handle her insane word salad non-responses anymore. Tonight they let her go on for a solid 30 seconds to a minute over her time, each time, and the thread almost went on suicide watch

She's way more coherent than Palin ever was even at the top of her game. I wouldn't call it word salad. She likes buzzwords just as much as every other business person. That's still pretty grating, though. She's just as qualified as anyone else on that stage. That's exactly as much faint praise as it sounds like, by the way.

"zero-based budgeting" "every dollar"

Then there was the bonus of saying she's had a private meeting with Putin like that gets her some street cred somewhere.

Well, in my ideal world, Fiorina would stay for two debates more, December on CNN and January *in Iowa* *on FOX* *with Megyn Kelly*. I do hope that they will try to drag her out for that long - and, hopefully, they will try to drag out Jeb, so I just need to hope she doesn't poll much lower than he.

After D6, though, I do hope that they drop everyone apart from the Establishment Candidate (probably Rubio), the rear end in a top hat Candidate(s) (Trump, Cruz) and Carson if he lasts that long or equivalent if one emerges in the meantime (Huckabee, probably). It'll be really high time to start the quarter-finals. Also, the actual voting will probably start, or something, dunno.

"Big banks exist because of regulations!" may have been the most aggravating part of that whole mess.

Other thoughts:

Trump: He said some toxic, toxic poo poo.  Not only are low wages good, he seemed to say we should actually be lowering them and people should work harder.  He also seemed to have somehow shifted the party’s immigration views left by getting everyone else to attack him on his own stance.

iJeb! : His most memorable moment was trying to butt in when Trump was talking, resulting in Trump telling him to wait and the camera then lingering on Jeb standing around waiting for Trump to be done.  He’s so bad at this.

Carson: Dude is insane and I don’t know how you can keep a straight face when talking to him.  In response to claims that removing tax deductions would hurt the American dream of owning a home, he responded that we owned homes before we had income tax.  What.

Carly: Her rapid-fire listing of things to sound knowledgeable is a tired gimmick.  Going back to her “I’ll start WWIII!” rant from the first debate was embarrassing.

Rubio: A good candidate, especially since people don’t seem to mind how scripted he feels.  He turned what should have been a flub (“That’s a good question, and I’d like to start by answering it”) into an endearing moment.  I hope anyone except him gets the nomination.

Kasich: He may be garbage politically, but in this context it's refreshing to have someone onstage calling out the stupid halfbaked rhetoric everyone else is spitting.  He's not doing himself any favors but it's still nice to see someone say "What you guys are saying literally makes no sense."  I'll miss him when he bows out.
