No. We were discussing the situation, someone said it was frustrating there were people that still insist we don't have a problem. I responded, "right on, it's loving pathetic how uneducated we as a public are about how big a problem racism still is." How about respecting the photographer's wishes to not be made a central theme to this story and focus on the excessive racial abuse committed by this college?

30.5 Days posted:You'll have to define where you think the line is- are you worthy of contempt after you've taken a certain number of pictures of someone, or only if you're taking pictures of someone who makes movies instead of protests? Let me help you: If you are protesting in a public space, or camped out as part of a protest in a public space -- let's say a college green -- you do not have any reasonable expectation of privacy. Further, you do not have any institutional authority to tell a member of the press they cannot photograph you in that space. The University could make that distinction and say that you can only photograph them in X or Y area but not in Z area as a time, place and manner restriction. If you are a public-figure, say a movie star, you legally have less expectations of privacy when you're in public. The key word being public. If you're at your home, you do have some general expectations of privacy. Most of the cases where a member of the "paparazzi" are sued by someone or get involved in altercation are almost exclusively when they attempt to violate that person's personal space or property. Those are fairly big distinctions. joeburz posted:Real Serious Journalists are no better than paparazzi in most cases and trying to argue otherwise is lol This is really dumb.

I personally do not think the discussion on here about the flaws of the protesters and safe space type things at Mizzou and Yale is meant to distract or disqualify the issues of racism / marginalization that the protesters are raising. It could be what is being discussed more intensely as result of those specific issues not being so cut-and-dry when compared to whether the administration of the school is in the wrong for ignoring acts of racism that happen and generally are bad about handling everything.

People will always find a way to tut tut protestors and make the behavior of the protestors the story to discredit their cause. A lot of the narrative around Yale and Mizzou (especially Yale) was "just kids being kids" and "blown out of proportion" anyway. That a group of college kids is doing stupid poo poo now lets everyone move on from any actual talk about poo poo going down This is all just an extension of people complaining about pc culture and trigger warnings and safe spaces yada yada. See: Jonathan Chait and his paranoia porn about how the PC LEFT is going to ruin the first amendment. Meh. I don't know. Journalists talking about journalism and the sanctity of it is the worst. Most of them aggressively suck at what they think journalism is.

So yeah it turns out the guy threatening to shoot every black person he sees was a 19 year old white supremacist. The police aren't releasing his mugshot for his safety (which I've always thought is fair, the dude is innocent at the moment, right?), but they released his name.... sooooo.... pointless. Of course, since they're not releasing his mugshot, twitter is blowing up with pictures of him from social media. From the looks of him, this kid better hope he never sees prison, he will loving die behind those bars. While this is going on, the right wing media is trying to dox the hunger strike kid as being wealthy, which proves...

But then we'd be stuck talking about continued racism on campus and the significance of a hunger and athletic labor strike taking down a university president and chancellor. We can't have that, both sides have to be equally bad!

Apparently Hunter M. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's absolutely not how yikyak works, correct?
