I'm looking forward to this episode for the weapon's grade food porn and to show much of a hard-on Araki has for Italy.

I do kinda wish that there was more inter-connectivity between the different parts of JoJo. I was expecting more of a huge overarching story line when I first heard that all the protagonists were related to each other, but aside from a few hints and cameo appearances each part is pretty self-contained. It would be pretty neat if we heard about Stands before Stardust Crusaders but I feel like it would need to be more natural than a minor character whacking an old-timey camera obscura.

I actually think the strength of JoJo IS the fact that there is no massive, over-arching story it's telling. It allows the comic to evolve and reinvent its scope, tone, and structure with each new arc, and to avoid becoming tired or bogged down. There are some threads that go through all JoJo, but they're thematic rather than plot-based. It also lets the manga grow with Araki, rather than pinning down a story almost 30 years ago and struggle to complete it now when he's basically a different person, leaving the manga in a Berserk-like quagmire of intractability. Bigger is not always better, and JoJo I think works best as a collection of related stories, rather than a single epic saga, as it gives each individual story more focus and pace.

I like all the Rohan one-shots, but I prefer the ones that have him interacting with other members of the Part 4 cast: they bring out the best/worst in his character.

Mikitaka is cool and the gambling part will be amazing. Even once you know what Rohan is about you do not at all expect him to stab his own finger. I think once people understand that it's mostly 'what's happening today in Morioh,' they will be ok. The only parts that drag for me are out of the way early on and the characters are so overwhelmingly great that it's easy to get into. Worst case scenario: they can hold out for Joseph parts. I like him ok but I'll never totally understand the overwhelming affinity for him. Aspirational, maybe? I can see why Jotaro doesn't catch on right away but I can see Josuke winning out eventually with a lot of folks, with good reason.

Caesar facially looks like Gappy there, but his markings make him distinguishable. Araki got into the habit of making Jonathan wear a headband and a scarf in the new art style and distinguishing Joseph with his aviator helmet which is just purely confusing.

After starting to read Diamond is Unbreakable during the Stardust Crusaders break I finally caught up with this wacky manga. We're not gonna really find out who "Josuke" 's other half really is until near the end, aren't we? Tonio & Pearl Jam are still way up there for wanting to see animated, he's just the coolest guy.

Their downloads page doesn't show much because they're doing black and white updates first, so batoto's the go to for updated translations. A couple other people are doing dribs and drabs at this point, too; someone's working on the Sleeping Slaves chapters (updating translation & typesetting on color panels - I just saw it on tumblr tonight) and I think there are random parts floating around on reddit but pulling all that together seems daunting so I guess I'll just keep waiting on the JJCA updates on batoto? The translation on the sleeping slaves stuff seemed to do mista justice in terms of voice so it's really nice to see that going up. Better translations that give those characters a more true voice will go such a long way toward converting people on Pt 5, I think. Yeah, it's frustrating when you not only don't get what's being said because of the translation but even the scan quality makes it tough to figure out just what the hell is even happening.
